Immediate opening for a full-time attorney in the Office of the General Counsel at Stanford University. This is a University Counsel position and reports directly to the Vice President and
General Counsel with day-to-day direction from the Senior University Counsels at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. This attorney is primarily responsible for providing legal counsel to SLAC management and working with stakeholders at other national laboratories and the Department of Energy on behalf of SLAC, but may also provide advice across the University. The attorney should have experience negotiating technology transfer agreements and collaboration agreements such as cooperative research and development agreements (CRADAs), strategic partnership project agreements (SPPAs), material transfer agreements (MTAs), and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), and a strong knowledge of intellectual property law and licensing. Familiarity with national laboratories, federal government contractors and/or an academic setting is preferred, along with a working knowledge of export control laws and regulations. In addition, working closely with the University's Office of Technology Licensing and Industrial Contracts Office, the attorney will provide advice on matters relating to patent law, copyright law, and trademark law. The attorney may also assist on matters involving miscellaneous agreement negotiations; international laws and agreements; federal contracting requirements; and other areas of law as necessary. Position requires discretion, flexibility, and the ability to understand and manage projects with competing interests in a constantly changing, cutting-edge environment.

Must be able to work independently, while also partnering and working with outside counsel and other staff attorneys. Applicants should have a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, and be a member of the California Bar or able to become one shortly. Requirements include excellence in academic credentials, writing, analytical and communication skills as well as good judgment and a practical approach to solving legal problems. Applicants must be comfortable with technology, committed to teamwork, responsive and have a proven record of providing the highest quality client service.
