About The American University in Cairo:
Founded in 1919, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo in 2008. The University also operates in its historic downtown facilities, offering cultural events, graduate classes, and continuing education. Student housing is available in New Cairo. Among the premier universities in the region, AUC is Middle States accredited; its Engineering programs are accredited by ABET, its Chemistry program is accredited by the Canadian Society for Chemistry, and the School of Business is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. The AUC Libraries contain the largest English-language research collection in the region and are an active and integral part of the University's pursuit of excellence in all academic and scholarly programs. Faculty salary and rank are based on qualifications and professional experience. According to AUC policies and procedures, faculty are entitled to generous benefits.
The newly established Institute of Global Health and Human Ecology (IGHHE) at the American University in Cairo (AUC) is seeking applicants at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Graduates and applicants who have a practical laboratory-based research focus in genomic risk and epigenetic modification that exacerbate risk, including environmental interactions are encouraged to apply.
This position requires the candidate to have demonstrable experience in epigenetic and genetic/genomic teaching and research experience relevant to mechanisms of communicable and non-communicable diseases, inclusive of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Experience with bioinformatics of epigenetic mechanisms as they apply to the investigation of healthy and disease states is highly desirable. The School has a rich intellectual environment in biomedical research encompassing structural biology, mechanistic biochemistry, control of gene expression, cancer biology, biotechnology and nanomedicine. The candidate should play a key collaborative role pertinent to School-wide activities in Global Health and clinical collaborations with scientists and healthcare institutions.
The IGHHE, an interdisciplinary institute, is committed to establishing and growing expertise in the core Global Public Health tenets of biostatistics, epidemiology, and implementation science methods. It houses the MPH (http://catalog.aucegypt.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=27&poid=4894) and PhD in Global Public Health (http://catalog.aucegypt.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=27&poid=4895) with concentrations in Precision Health and Public Health Policy and Management, as well as the MS in Sustainable Development. There are many collaborative opportunities within the School of Sciences and Engineering, with its focus on interdisciplinary programs, the Center for Applied Research in Environmental Sustainability (CARES), and across AUC's participating schools and centers. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an independent program of methodological research in their area of interest, while cultivating collaborations with other investigators in the Institute and University. In addition, successful candidates will be expected to teach core graduate courses and mentor graduate students. Cairo, Egypt and MENA offer opportunities for Global Public Health research and collaboration, and the potential to make a difference. AUC, Egypt's Global University, offers many attractive benefits and incentives to its faculty and the Cairo area has much to offer in its family-friendly, affordable, and recreationally and culturally rich environment.
Applicants should have a PhD, or comparable degree in clinical molecular biology, genetics or biotechnology with a disease/risk-based focus. An earned MPH or PhD in Public Health from an accredited institution is a plus, and a portfolio of scholarship is a must. Candidates with versatility in research interests and applications are encouraged to apply.
Deadline of application is 15 February 2019. Review of applications will start immediately on receipt or until successful candidates are identified.
