Job Summary

The Summer Operations and Digital Content Coordinator position is an integral part of the Summer Operations Team that supports a broad range of processes the Office of the Dean of Special Programs relies upon to support their programs, conferences and events, and market their programs and services.

The Office of the Dean of Special Programs (ODSP) presents a distinctive array of academic programs, art institutes, lecture series, artist/scholar residences and community programs that contribute to Skidmore’s unique position among liberal arts colleges as a place for academic experimentation and cutting-edge artistic creation and development. Everything we present shares a spirit of innovation, broad access, serious educational endeavor and fun. As host to many outside conferences and events, Special Programs welcomes those whose missions are consistent with ours and who will thrive in our community.

In support of the above, the primary responsibilities of this position include oversight of guest services for our summer population of 3,000 residential guests, and supervising the operations of the Summer Registration and Information Desk and approximately 7 full-time summer staff; coordinating operational details with campus partners, including but not limited to Housekeeping, Dining Services, Campus Safety, and Facilities. Due to the fast-paced and consolidated timing of our programs, some weekends are required during the summer months to oversee Sunday check ins at the Registration Desk, which is open 7-days-a-week.

The position is responsible for the management of the housing and conference management system (CP), ID card system (CS Gold), an on-line registration system, and the integration of several related functions. Therefore, the position requires a high degree of technical proficiency and the ability to learn, document, and train others on systems. Access to sensitive information requires the utmost professionalism and discretion.

In addition, the position is responsible for maintaining and updating the ODSP’s numerous program and department websites; being informed of and maintaining best practices and benchmark statistics; recommending improved content, design, subject lines, and personalization; providing technical consultation for ODSP staff on digital advertising; contributing ideas and suggestions; supporting departmental e-mail campaigns to market programs and reach potential students; coordinating social media needs for ODSP; and maintaining and distributing online surveys.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; a sense of humor, especially under pressure; an ability to work collaboratively as part of a strong team; attentiveness to detail; accuracy; problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to adapt to and manage multiple priorities in a rapidly-changing work environment; organizational skills; proficiency in using database management systems; knowledge of digital marketing resources, content management systems, and social media.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 2-5 years’ experience in a related area is required.

Overtime is necessary, especially during the summer months. The incumbent must be willing to work some weekends during the summer to oversee summer program check-ins. Summer on-call hours are also required to troubleshoot problems as they arise.

    Organization

Skidmore is a highly selective liberal arts college with a reputation for its creative approaches to just about everything. With its relatively small size and student-faculty ratio, the College is a close-knit academic community. Skidmore is known for its faculty of teacher-scholars devoted to the instruction and mentoring of undergraduates—approximately 2,400 talented men and women from some 47 states and 46 countries.

A great education is all about putting academic theory and creative expression into practice. That’s what our founder, Lucy Skidmore Scribner, believed. Skidmore’s not an ivory tower. Never has been. Never will be. It’s a place where faculty and students work together, then figure out how to use what they’ve learned to make a difference in the world. This practical focus often leads to cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, where students carry multiple majors, student-faculty research is common, and internships and community service are standard. It also leads to interesting and unusual combinations of activities, frequently woven into an intellectual passion.

If this kind of experience resonates with you, why not take a closer look at Skidmore?
