Job Description:


The School of Nursing and Health Professions (SNHP) at York College of Pennsylvania invites applicants for a full time appointment of a Director of Simulation Experiences to begin June 1st, 2019. The Simulation Director is responsible for providing simulation experiences for the SNHP to begin June 1st 2019. This role reports to the Dean of the SNHP and works with the Chairs of the Departments. The Simulation Director has operational oversight and responsibility for the simulation labs including equipment and supplies procurement, budget management, and coordination of simulation activities. Primary responsibilities include planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating simulation-based learning across the continuum from standardized patients through high-fidelity simulators and virtual computer based simulation. The candidate will also coordinate with information technology, instructional design staff, academic leadership, and faculty as needed to create a unified vision for the integration of simulation into the curriculum across disciplines.


Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills and have a strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team as well as those who demonstrate commitment to the ability to teach effectively.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assist Department Chairs and faculty with development, implementation, and integration of simulation activities to enable students to meet course learning objectives.
  • Schedule and coordinate simulation activities.
  • Set up, run simulation experiences providing support to faculty and students during simulation.
  • Ensure maintenance, repair, and updating of simulation equipment.
  • Orient faculty, clinical instructors, and students to simulation policies, simulator equipment, and the simulated learning environment.
  • Develop and implement a Simulated Patient Program.
  • Arrange faculty development on simulation and simulation equipment.
  • Provide to SNHP faculty and administration an ongoing strategic vision of simulation based on recognized national standards.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of current program curriculum and familiarity with course resources.
  • Develop an annual budget for simulation activities and provide input to leadership on long-range planning related to simulation.
  • Develop, implement, and periodically review policies, procedures, and practices for the simulation labs.
  • Monitor daily operations of simulation labs to ensure efficient and effective utilization of resources.
  • Manage the facility, equipment, and supplies to ensure they are organized and ready for simulation sessions.
  • Attend Curriculum Committee meetings and participate in implementation, evaluation, and revision of curricula as it relates to simulation.
  • Assist in the collection and research data on simulation.
  • Maintain records of metrics related to simulation activities.
  • Report periodically to the Curriculum Committee on simulation activities.
  • Collect and analyze simulation evaluation data from faculty and students to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Coordinate with information technology, instructional design staff, academic leadership, and faculty as needed to create a unified vision for the integration of simulation into the curriculum across disciplines.
  • Manage the facility, equipment, and supplies to ensure they are organized and ready for simulation sessions.
  • Arrange tours or demonstrations for potential students or visitors and participate in open houses.
  • Continuously update own knowledge of learning theories, simulation techniques, simulator capabilities, and emerging technologies.
  • Maintains active involvement in professional organizations.
  • Teaches and advises nursing students as needed.
  • Serve as a credible ambassador for the use of simulation at all levels within the School of Nursing and Health Professionals.
  • Performs other responsibilities and projects as needed and assigned.

Position Begins June 1st 2019



Requirements:


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:


  • Bachelor degree in relevant field such as nursing, adult education, simulation, instructional technology, informatics, or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution
  • One-year experience with development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Master or doctoral degree in nursing or related field is preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialists (CHSOS) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educators (CHSE) by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
  • Two years of experience in clinical practice.
  • Two years of teaching experience in nursing or health profession, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Current RN licensure in Pennsylvania or eligibility to obtain such.
