The assistant director of donor relations develops, plans, and implements a broad range of programs and activities designed to foster and nurture lifelong, meaningful relationships between the university and its donors and prospective donors. The assistant director develops and executes donor cultivation, recognition, and stewardship events and communications as part of an overall effort to deliver a donor-centric and meaningful experience for constituents who provide philanthropic support for the college. This position reports to the Director of Donor Relations and Campaign Programs.
- Develop, produce, and execute signature programming and initiatives for special constituency donor populations to include, but not limited to, members of the President’s Leadership Society, Legacy Society, and Benefactor Plaza. This work includes the planning and implementing of annual donor cultivation and recognition events and communications (e.g., the President’s Leadership Society event(s), the Legacy Society Luncheon, the President’s Annual Report, and various key constituent events).
- Develop, maintain, and implement a master stewardship plan and schedule, which incorporates stewardship activities and tactics and includes multiple mediums, for key donor populations thereby promoting a consistent cycle of cultivation, acknowledgement, and recognition, and to encourage closer affinity between donors and the university.
- Participate in developing and executing on campus and regional donor cultivation and stewardship programs, including events, communications, and special initiatives. Manage and track program-related budgets; coordinate vendor details; collaborate and communicate with university relations and campus stakeholders; and produce detailed timelines and flowcharts, outlining implementation tasks, deadlines, and deadlines. Support projects that motivate prospects and/or steward existing donors, including drafting gift acknowledgments, stewardship reports and updates, and other communications to key groups of prospects and donors.
- Manage, coordinate, and execute facilities donor recognition and stewardship initiatives such as dedications and groundbreakings, commemorative signage, and other related donor recognition activities; serve as donor relations liaison for staff colleagues, donors, and vendors to ensure timely and accurate development, production, and installation of donor recognition signage.
- With the director of donor relations and campaign programs, devise and execute tactics for key constituent-focused events, activities, and communications.
- Remain current on donor relations and stewardship trends, strategies and services offered by other educational institutions and non-profits.
- Participate in and provide staffing assistance at other development and alumni and parent relations events, including Homecoming and Family Weekend, Summer Reunion Weekend, and other related events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Donor Relations and Campaign Programs.
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
This position monitors certain budget accounts within Donor Relations, Campaign, and Post-Campaign.
- The ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with internal and external constituents.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, exercise independent judgment, navigate sensitive situations, handle confidential information, think strategically, and manage various projects and competing priorities simultaneously. A minimum of two years’ experience in development, donor relations and stewardship, alumni relations, or related field.Background in event planning and program development.Highly developed computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as constituent relations software such as Sage Millennium.
- Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
- Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.
- A bachelor’s degree.
- This position requires some travel, night and weekend work.
