Texas State University Department of Curriculum and Instruction is seeking to fill a tenure-track position in special education at the assistant professor level. This is a full-time position with a nine-month academic year appointment beginning in Fall 2019.

The Special Education program is housed within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education. This innovative and rapidly growing program offers undergraduate teacher certification, and graduate programs in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), teacher certification, autism, behavioral disorders, and learning disabilities.

We are seeking a faculty member with expertise in evidence-based intervention practices for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (e.g., autism, Down syndrome, Fragile X). Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Delivering quality instruction in undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the Special Education program.
● Delivering instruction in Board Certified Behavior Analyst course sequence
● Participating in the clinical services, student training, and/or research activities of the Clinic for Autism Research Evaluation and Support (CARES), our university-based clinic.
● Pursuing a focused area of scholarship that includes scholarly collaborations with faculty and students, and that culminates in refereed publications, professional presentations, and submitted grant proposals (i.e. external funding).
● Advising special education graduate students.
● Developing and participating in collaborative partnerships with other Texas State programs and area schools.
● Mentoring students, and assisting with student support and recruitment activities.
● Engaging in service at the program, university, and profession levels.

Required Qualifications

● Earned doctorate in Special Education or related discipline from an accredited institution of higher education (ABD will be considered; doctorate must be completed before the official start of employment).
● Earned Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA or BCBA-D credential) completed before official start of employment.
● Evidence of advanced training and/or professional experience in behavioral interventions for people with intellectual and/or developmental disability.
● Record of, or demonstrated potential for, sustained scholarly publication in peer-reviewed research journals.
● Record of, or strong demonstrated potential for, sustained scholarly productivity in one or more of the following areas: a) assistive technology for people with intellectual/developmental disability; b) intervention research to improve academic skills in students with intellectual/developmental disability; c) early intensive behavioral intervention for children with autism; d) preparation and/or in-service training of students seeking board certification in behavior analysis; e) other areas related to special education, applied behavior analysis and/or education of people with intellectual/developmental disability.
● Experience working with EC-12 (teaching experience, professional development, administration, instructional coaching, etc.) in typical school settings or alternative school settings (e.g., early childhood settings, residential, juvenile justice).

Preferred Qualifications

● Teaching certification and/or experience teaching in special education settings (e.g., Life Skills, Self-contained, Inclusion classrooms) within public or private schools (K-12).
● Demonstrated record of excellence in university teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level (can include online instruction).
● Record of, or demonstrated potential for, external funding (research, personnel preparation, and/or other).
● Experience in development of and/or participation in collaborative research development, implementation, and analysis.
● Experience working within a university-based autism clinic that provides services to the community.
● Experience working directly with families of children with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
● Dual language proficiency.
