Adjunct Faculty – American Sign Language

SUNY Sullivan is seeking candidates to fill the adjunct position for American Sign Language, in the Division of Liberal Arts and Sciences, for a Fall 2019 appointment. Applicants should show an ability to guide students through the language and culture of persons in the Deaf Community, by teaching a basic competence in the structural elements of American Sign Language, including non-verbal communication techniques, grammar principles, basic vocabulary, and conversational skills. Instructors will show students the role of American Sign Language within the context of the culture of the Deaf community.

The successful candidate will be willing and able to commit to delivering well-prepared lessons; holding weekly on-site office hours; engaging in regular and timely communication with students and staff via college e-mail; developing and following clear and transparent grading practices; adhering to college and department policies; and submitting requested grades, records, and academic paperwork by posted deadlines.

  • ASL certification is required.
  • Teaching experience (preferably at the college level) preferred.
  • Possess a strong commitment to student success
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
