The ideal candidate will share Clovis Community College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of the 2017-2018 academic year, we currently enroll approximately 11,000 students of which 43% are Latinx, 1% are American Indian/Alaska Native, 11% are Asian, 3% are Black/African American, 36% are White, and 4% are multiracial. CCC is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Under the direction of the Dean of Students, this position will cover a full range of general counseling and coordinating responsibilities including assisting with the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), Cooperative Agencies and Resources for Education (CARE), coordinating and implementing programming and support services, and the provision of academic, career and personal counseling with individuals and groups in addition to teaching counseling courses (if applicable).

The Counselor/Coordinator of EOPS/CARE will:

  • Provide leadership and coordination of the EOPS and CARE, programs;
  • Assist, develop, monitor, and complete reports for categorical budgets;
  • Monitor and implement programs in compliance with federal, state, district, and college regulations, policies, and procedures;
  • Coordinate and implement programming and services assuring students meet requirements necessary to achieve student and program goals;
  • Collaborate with academic divisions and student services to provide innovative programming and services for EOPS/CARE students;
  • Collaborate and coordinate fiscally related programming for students with financial aid and business offices (i.e., monetary aid, scholarship opportunities, child care, federal work study, etc.);
  • Maintain program records, student files, and case management documentation;
  • Collect, review, and monitor data (i.e., program, student success, MIS, etc.) related to reports, evaluation, and planning documents required by the State Chancellor’s Office, District Office, the county and/or college;
  • Prepare, complete, and submit reports and other required documents to be compliant with all reporting requirements for programs (i.e., program plan, end-of-the-year report, program review, curriculum, etc.);
  • Collaborate with and serve as a liaison for internal and external departments and agencies to ensure coordination of program services with county welfare departments and other organizations;
  • Conduct intake interviews, orientations, outreach services, and workshops to potential and current program participants;
  • Determine student’s eligibility for programs and refer students to appropriate resources;
  • Provide comprehensive counseling services to students including academic, career, transfer, and personal counseling to individuals and groups;
  • Develop and maintain student educational plans (SEP);
  • Develop, coordinate, and teach counseling courses related to programs;
  • Attend and participate in training workshops required by programs and complete ongoing professional development;
  • Meet the special counseling needs of program participants and other underrepresented student populations;
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Provide services during days, evenings, and weekends; and
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Students.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development; AND

    One of the following below:
    • (1) Nine semester units of college course work predominantly related to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages;OR

    • (2) Six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages;AND


  • All candidates must have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.

    OR

  • A valid California Community College Credential;

    OR

  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience working in EOPS;
  • Experience coordinating community college based grant funded programs and/or categorical programs;
  • Experience working with students from traditionally disadvantaged backgrounds, students with disabilities, veterans, and/or single parents;
  • Experience with reporting to an outside governing agency;
  • Ability to prioritize workload and conflicting demands;
  • Ability to conduct and develop educational workshops;
  • Proficiency utilizing available computer applications and technology related to program coordination, counseling, and instruction;
  • Commitment to participatory governance, consensus building, and a team approach to serving students;
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and counsel persons of diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds;
  • Successful counseling experience in a community college;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and administration;
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth;
  • Experience providing innovative programming in regards to addressing and improving student success and retention;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusions of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s relational practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity;
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
Conditions of Employment 177 - 181 duty days per year. Salary and Benefits

Starting salary is $55,650 – $85,675 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,082 is available. In addition, the district offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure

Applications will be screened by the Human Resources department to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date listed on the application, a selection committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Student Services and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
