Your application may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full class assignments.

All newly hired part-time Faculty will be placed on Step 1.

Full term pay rate may vary by course. Actual term pay is based on the course catalog contact hours multiplied by the appropriate hourly rate.

These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.
Employment in these positions will require, as a condition of employment, payment of monthly union dues or a monthly fair share fee in lieu of dues through automatic payroll deduction.

Portland Community College will hire only United States citizens and aliens lawfully authorized to work in the United States. All new employees will be required to complete the designated Immigration Service Employers Verification I-9 form. Responsibilities/Duties -Instruct students, using approved course outcome guides developed by college-wide subject area Faculty.
-Assess and grade student achievement of learning outcomes.
-Use student feedback to improve teaching.
-Be available for a reasonable amount of student contact to respond to questions and to resolve problems related to the course through time spent before or after class or through telephone or e-mail exchanges or office hours where facilities and schedules permit.
-Attend one staff meeting per term as directed by the College and when notified by the Division Dean.
-Provide additional hours of course-related student conferences or tutoring over and above classroom instruction when courses are designated as requiring such. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree or higher in Health Education, Health Science, Community Health, Public Health;

OR

Master's Degree or higher in any subject. Must show at least 30 quarter hours of graduate level coursework in any of the above or Course Content Area.

Course Content Area includes and is not limited to:

Biostatistics, Chronic Illness, Epidemiology, Exercise Physiology, Fitness, Food Systems, Health Behavior, Health Disparities, Health Promotion, Health Psychology, Infectious Disease, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Physical Education, Psychology, Population Science, Stress Management, OR Wellness

Cardiovascular, Environmental, Global, Integrative, Maternal & Child, Men's, Sexual, OR Women's Health

This list is not exhaustive as there are other degree titles and course content related areas that may be appropriate. The Division Dean, in consultation with full-time HE Faculty, will make the final determination about the applicability of a particular degree that is outside the scope of these lists.
Prior teaching experience at the college level or teaching adults is preferred.

HE 110 CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers

Associate's Degree or certificate from a nationally accredited or state approved program in the field of EMT, Paramedic, Nursing or Fire Science or one-year full-time equivalent college teaching experience; AND
Required American Red Cross Instructor certification or American Heart Association Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer

HE 112 Standard First Aid and Emergency Care

Associate's degree or certificate from a nationally accredited or state approved program in the field of EMT, Paramedic, Nursing or Fire Science or one-year full-time equivalent college teaching experience; AND
Required American Red Cross Instructor certification or American Heart Association certification in First Aid/CPR: Lay Responder

HE 113 First Aid & CPR/AED Professional Rescuers/HealthCare Providers

Associate's degree or certificate from a nationally accredited or state approved program in the field of: EMT, Paramedic, Nursing or Fire Science or one-year full-time equivalent college teaching experience; AND
Required American Red Cross Instructor certification or American Heart Association certification in First Aid, AED, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer

HE 125 First Aid & Industrial Safety

Meets general requirements AND
Required American Red Cross Instructor certification or American Heart Association certification in First Aid, AED, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, eligible to teach Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission. Safety education at the undergraduate and/or graduate level preferred.
HE 252 First Aid - Basics and Beyond

Meets general requirements AND
Required American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED and/or Emergency Medical Response instructor and instructor trainers

HE 295 Health and Fitness for Life

Meets General Requirements WITH at least 8 quarter hours of undergraduate or graduate coursework in Anatomy, Physiology, or Exercise Physiology; OR
Master's degree or higher in any subject WITH a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, Human Performance, and Kinesiology; AND at least 8 quarter hours of undergraduate or graduate coursework in Anatomy, Physiology, or Exercise Physiology
