Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in the Emergency Medical Services Department at the Cascade Campus.

The department anticipates potential need for Instructors qualified to teach the following EMS courses:

EMS 105 - EMT: Part I
EMS 106 - EMT: Part II
EMS 113 - Emergency Response Communication/Documentation
EMS 114 - Emergency Response Patient Transportation
EMS 116 - Emergency Medical Services Rescue

The department will review new applications at the start of each academic term.

As part of this application, you will be asked to list the PCC courses in this discipline which you would be able to teach (a link to the current course catalog is embedded in the question).

- These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees. Employment in these positions will require, as a condition of employment, payment of monthly union dues or a monthly fair share fee in lieu of dues through automatic payroll deduction.

- Full term pay rate may vary by course. Actual term pay is based on the course catalog contact hours multiplied by the appropriate hourly rate.

Responsibilities/Duties Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Instruct students, using approved course outcome guides developed by college-wide subject area Faculty.

- Assess and grade student achievement of learning outcomes.

- Use student feedback to improve teaching.

- Be available for a reasonable amount of student contact to respond to questions and to resolve problems related to the course through time spent before or after class or through telephone or e-mail exchanges or office hours where facilities and schedules permit.

- Attend one staff meeting per term as directed by the College and when notified by the Division Dean.

- Provide additional hours of course-related student conferences or tutoring over and above classroom instruction when courses are designated as requiring such.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, your application materials must show how you meet the following requirements:

Note: Full time faculty must be qualified to teach most of the courses in the program, and are also responsible for ensuring professional accreditation, developing curriculum, maintaining facilities and interacting with EMS professional organizations. For this reason the qualifications for FT Instructors are more comprehensive than those for individual courses.

1. AAS Degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher learning in Emergency Medical Services, Fire Protection/Administration, Emergency TeleCommunicator, Emergency Management, Nursing, or Allied Health; OR Bachelor Degree or higher

2. Currently licensed Oregon Paramedic, or higher, in good standing with OHA EMS&TS

3. Three (3) years' experience at the paramedic level or higher

4. AHA BLS Instructor Certified or equivalent

5. ACLS Instructor Certified

6. BTLS or PHTLS Instructor Certified

7. At least one of the following:
- NFPA Instructor 1
- DPSST Fire Service Instructor I and II
- NAEMSE EMT Instructor
- 40 hours of the Instructor Development Program offered by the DPSST
- Transcripted 3 credits adult learning theory, or equivalent

8. Participation in Course Director Updates offered by OHA

9. Transcripted evidence of math competency equivalent to college algebra, or higher


Note Regarding Academic Credentials:

- Official transcripts are required to be submitted within 2 weeks of offer date for degrees required in the stated minimum qualifications.

- Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation. Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.

Special/Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
These qualifications and characteristics are critical to success in this important role at PCC. Please clarify in your application materials the experiences, successes and techniques evidencing how you bring these strengths:

- Demonstrated teaching and/or training experience

- Familiar with simulation in EMS field

- Current licensure as a paramedic, AEMT or EMT (with or without firefighting background)

- Familiar with on-line courses, or with teaching on-line or hybrid courses

- Demonstrated experience working with highly diverse populations
