General Description

Mount Saint Mary College is seeking a dynamic and highly entrepreneurial leader to be the next Vice President for Advancement. Reporting to the President and working closely with the Board of Trustees, the Vice President will strengthen a growing culture of philanthropy through the use of leading-edge practices, technology platforms, and analytical tools.

The Vice President for Advancement is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive institutional advancement programs and recruiting and developing talented team members focused toward the ultimate goal of significantly increasing constituent involvement and fundraising outcomes. The advancement function includes responsibility for the annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, major gifts and gift planning, endowment, capital campaigns, and alumni and constituent relations efforts, stewardship, and advancement services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1.Advance the mission, vision, and short and long-term goals of the College in concert with the President and senior administrative colleagues.
2.Work closely with the President in all phases of advancement and campaign leadership activities.
3.Serve as a member of the Leadership Team and maintain close working relationships with members of the Board of Trustees and key alumni/parents/friends.
4.Maintain a dynamic portfolio of high net worth individuals and secure major, capital, and planned gifts, as well as advanced annual gifts and endowment support.
5.Participate in strategic discussions and develop programs to strengthen the College’s financial resources.
6.Create and execute fundraising plans that utilize best practices in annual, major, and planned gift programs to meet fundraising goals.
7.Ensure dynamic processes in all phases of donor qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
8.Prepare for campaigns through comprehensive and effective campaign planning and execution.
9.Hire, train, inspire and guide direct reports and the entire advancement team toward accountable, goal-oriented outcomes.
10.Develop annual plans and budgets for Alumni Relations, Annual Fund, Gift Planning, Comprehensive Campaigns, Major Gifts, Grants Development, Stewardship and Advancement Services.
11.Engage campus and enhance the culture of philanthropy. Maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, coaches, and campus departments whose cooperation is essential to effective outreach and fund raising.
12.Serve as the staff liaison for Institutional Advancement to the Board of Trustees and the Board Advancement Committee.
13.Provide leadership to constituent relations programs in the areas of alumni relations, parent relations, and other key constituent relations.
14.Devise and implement effective internal and external messaging and methods of advancement communication.
15.Serve as an exemplary College advocate in the community, with local leaders, religious organizations, business and corporate partnerships, and other leaders, and build relationships that closely link the community with the College.
16.Be active and involved in the advancement profession and keep the College visible among higher education peer institutions.
17.Embody values of caring, compassion, justice, integrity, competence, and affirmation.
18.Treat members of the campus community with fairness, dignity, and respect - seeking a spirit of unity and harmony to achieve a common mission.
19.All other duties as assigned by the President.
20.Travel is required: the Vice President must be willing to travel extensively in his or her work with donors and as a representative of the College.


Requirements

1.Bachelor’s degree is required and master’s degree is preferred.
2.Seven to ten years of experience as a senior level advancement professional in higher education is preferred.
3.Significant experience with leveraging technology, information systems, and data/analytics to support a robust and contemporary approach to advancement.
4.The successful candidate will display a record of leadership and accomplishment in advancement with a proven track record of fundraising success, especially with campaign planning/execution and in major gift solicitations.
5.Strong organizational, supervisory, and leadership capabilities are required.
6.The successful candidate will document successful solicitation of numerous major and principal gifts and present a history of building advancement program(s) and fundraising performance.
7.Exemplary interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to affect favorably sophisticated volunteers and donors.
8.The ability to work effectively with many diverse constituencies in a college environment.
9.Other important characteristics include a strong work ethic, competitive nature, personal integrity, emotional intelligence, a sense of humor, excellent communication skills, and strategic thinking and planning skills. Evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth is also required.

Founded by the Sisters of Saint Dominic in 1960, the Mount has been an academic presence here in Newburgh since 1883. The college's roots in education, and in the training of educators, go even further back to the 14th century and Saint Dominic.

We offer our students an affordable liberal arts education with 50 academic programs and 3 graduate degree programs. Our strong programs in business, education, the health professions, media arts and the social sciences are linked to high career growth fields. Location. Newburgh, New York. The Mount is conveniently located in the Mid-Hudson Valley, midway between New York City and New York's capital city, Albany. The Mount is in Newburgh in Orange County, New York, on a beautiful campus that overlooks the western banks of the Hudson River. It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
