The Mount Holyoke College Asian Studies Program invites applications for a Lecturer position in Japanese. The position requires teaching the Japanese language at the beginning to advanced levels, participating in college and departmental meetings and events, and mentoring students. The successful candidate will teach five (5) courses per academic year.

The initial appointment is for three (3) years from AY 2019-20, with a renewable contract following a successful third-year review. After the second three-year appointment, the candidate will become a senior lecturer (with renewable five-year contracts), and will be eligible for sabbatical leaves.

Applicants are expected to have a Master’s degree, Ed.D, or Ph.D. in Japanese language, education, linguistics, or a related field with native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English. Preference will go to a person with experience teaching Japanese as a foreign language at the college level. The successful candidate will demonstrate competence in working with students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
