Basic Function and Other Details: MiraCosta Community College in coastal, north San Diego County, California, invites applications for a full-time, six-month sabbatical leave replacement, instructional dean position beginning in July 2019 through December 2019.

THE POSITION:
Under the direction of the vice president of instructional services, the interim dean of mathematics and sciences will work with the following departments (subject to change): Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physical Sciences (Astronomy, Geology, Oceanography, Physics), and Social Sciences (Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science). The dean provides leadership for and works with distance education, tutoring and academic support, writing center and math learning center.

The interim dean plans, organizes, integrates and directs the work and programs of the school of mathematics and sciences; participates actively in shared governance activities and initiatives; works in close cooperation with other instructional and administrative deans; provides expert professional assistance and leadership to the president and executive management on district-wide programs and strategies for achieving the district's mission and institutional goals within areas of campus responsibility; and performs related duties as assigned. 1.Plan, organize, direct, oversee, lead, integrate and evaluate the work of faculty and classified managers and staff in an assigned school, campus or administration department; with department chairs and managers, manage and direct development, implementation and evaluation of annual program plans, goals and objectives, work processes, systems and procedures to achieve district goals, objectives and standards; develop and work with faculty and staff to manage and monitor budgets for personnel, facilities, equipment and instructional materials; track program funding allocations and expenditures to ensure compliance with legal mandates.

2.Provide day-to-day leadership and work with school, campus or administration department academic and classified staff to ensure excellence in educational opportunities and student services supportive of high student and staff achievement, innovation, best practices, stewardship and fiscal prudence.

3.Manage and participate in the selection of full-time and associate faculty; coordinate associated employment processes with Human Resources; conduct and/or facilitate new faculty and/or staff orientations; monitor teaching load assignments; oversee and ensure the timely evaluation of faculty; encourage faculty in their continuing professional development; work to promote and maintain a collegial environment; chair faculty tenure review processes; oversee, facilitate and/or act as a final adjudicator in faculty, staff, student and community conflict resolution and grievance processes.

4.Direct and manage the performance of classified administrators and staff; direct and oversee the selection of managers and staff; establish performance requirements and personal development targets; regularly monitor performance and provide coaching for performance improvement and development, in accordance with district human resources policies and labor contract agreements.

5.Coordinate and/or participate in the district's institutional planning processes; manage and oversee a variety of research initiatives, including research on student equity and success outcome measures, to inform strategic and program planning efforts; coordinate, facilitate and participate in regular program reviews.

8.Provide leadership in the coordination of state, local and regional collaborations; oversee the development of grant applications and administration of grants.

9.Manage and oversee systems and procedures for the acquisition and maintenance of data in accordance with state regulations; direct or participate in preparation of periodic and end-of-year reports.

10.Stay abreast of relevant trends and engage in personal professional development programs and activities to maximize contributions to the college and the community. 12.Ensure the integrity of academic programs by upholding professional and accreditation standards and education code requirements; work with department chairs and faculty in monitoring student success and equity outcomes and assessment activities at the program and course levels; foster quality instruction and optimal functioning of programs; provide support to incorporate and implement "best practices" within fields of instruction.

13.Lead and work with faculty in conducting regular curriculum reviews and in developing curricula for new courses to meet student needs.

THE DISTRICT, STAFF AND STUDENTS:

The MiraCosta Community College District is one of California's 114 public community colleges. The district includes the communities of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Cardiff, Olivenhain, Leucadia, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar, Carmel Valley, and parts of Camp Pendleton. The single college district is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees who are elected from each of the district's seven communities. About MiraCosta: (contd) MiraCosta offers undergraduate degrees, university-transfer courses, career-and-technical education, certificate programs, basic-skills education, and lifelong-learning opportunities, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomanufacturing.

The college's fee-based Community Education program provides a wide variety of classes, workshops, and excursions. Tuition-free, noncredit classes also present a variety of learning opportunities at the Community Learning Center and throughout the community. MiraCosta College employs 209 full-time faculty, 388 regular classified staff, 14 classified administrators and 16 academic administrators. THE SITES:

The district operates two campuses and two centers.

The Oceanside Campus (OC) moved to its 121.5-acre site in 1964 and houses a comprehensive public community college offering credit, fee-based, and noncredit courses. In the 2016-17 academic year, the college offered general education credit courses that applied toward 66 associate degrees, 50 Certificates of Proficiency, and 61 Certificates of Achievement. Some noncredit classes and community services courses are also offered on this campus. Approximately 10,500 students, the majority of the district's students, attend the Oceanside Campus.

The San Elijo Campus (SAN) in Cardiff is positioned as the district's transfer-focused site and offers a wide range of credit courses leading to transfer and almost 40 associate degrees and career certificates. Each semester, more than 200 sections are offered on this campus to a student body of more than 3,000 students, with support networks in tutoring, counseling, library, wellbeing, and student activities. A rich variety of community events and workshops are also offered year-round at the San Elijo Campus. The Sites: The Community Learning Center (CLC) opened in fall 2000, serves approximately 2,500 students, and is located on 7.6 acres in downtown Oceanside. The CLC hosts a wide variety of noncredit programs, including English as a Second Language, the Adult High School Diploma Program, classes for older adults, health classes, parenting classes, and classes for those who are physically and mentally challenged. The center also houses the Cisco Networking Academy, which prepares students for computer industry certifications. Credit courses that fulfill general education requirements are also offered at this site and are intended to support students' transition from noncredit to credit enrollment.

MiraCosta College's Technology Career Institute (TCI) in Carlsbad is part of MiraCosta College's Career Education Department. It offers our local community members the opportunity to enhance their lives and their careers with low-cost, hassle-free classes, workshops, and programs. From enrichment classes to job training programs, the TCI provides the types of classes that make it easy for students to reach their goals, no matter what age. All of the programs and classes at the TCI are fee-based and not-for-credit. The TCI offers classes and certificate programs to skilled workers in industries such as high-tech manufacturing, maritime technology, and emerging technologies.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides resources, workshops, and leadership programs for small businesses and serves all of North San Diego and Imperial Counties. The Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) provides entrepreneurial development services such as business training, counseling, and mentoring, as well as referrals for eligible veterans and military spouses owning or considering starting a small business enterprise in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Imperial Counties.
