Senior Director Annual Giving & Alumni Engagement

Knox College invites applications for the new position of Senior Director of Annual Giving & Alumni Engagement reporting to the Vice President for Advancement. The full-time 12 month leadership position within the Office of Advancement will provide strategic direction for fully integrating constituent engagement and philanthropy among the Knox community by bringing together under one leader both annual giving and alumni relations. The role is charged with creating and maintaining pathways for alumni, in particular, and other constituents, in general, to engage with the College as attendees, life-long learners, volunteers and donors.

Knox College is in the final 18 months of phase two of a three-phased series of fundraising initiatives called the Above & Beyond - fundraising projects and priorities that are enhancing academic facilities and building endowment for faculty compensation, scholarships, and experiential learning opportunities for students. The Knox Fund, the College’s annual operating fund, is part of the Above & Beyond and has seen annual growth in dollars raised - nearing $4 million annually. The College’s strategic plan, Knox 2018, sets forth a goal to “significantly increase the number of alumni, parents, and community members engaging with Knox and volunteering on behalf of the College.” Recent programming additions to alumni relations include alumni travel offerings, alumni engaging with students as “professionals in residence”, student-alumni mentoring, a new alumni networking app, and term-break immersive learning opportunities with students and alumni and parents.

The role is both creative and strategic, but also hands on in regards to raising money and engaging constituents. The position is personally responsible for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of the College’s leadership donors, the President’s Circle. The position manages six additional personnel (1 ½ in annual giving; 4 ½ in alumni relations), the majority of whom are dual-focused between engaging constituents and securing funds. The goal of the merger is to build a positive, inclusive and collaborative group focused on a seamless, organized and strategic message to the larger Knox community.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree is required. Six to eight plus years of fundraising experience with an annual fund and leadership donors. Preference will be given to candidates with prior staff and volunteer management and those who have had direct experience within a collaborative fundraising/engagement academic institution. The successful candidate must demonstrate ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, superior written and oral communications, recognize and push for a high level of creativity, and appreciate and utilize data to inform fundraising and engagement decision-making. The position requires up to 25% travel and some evening and weekend work.
