Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Major Gifts Officer.

Under the supervision of the Vice President for External Relations, the Major Gifts Officer actively manages a focused portfolio of major gift prospects and donors. This includes development and execution of strategies working with the appropriate Institutional Advancement division team members, the Cabinet, faculty, and/or academic staff to substantially grow and expand the major gift base to meet revenue goals. Responsibilities include the identification and coordination of cultivation and solicitation activities by working with other staff, leadership volunteers, and the President.

Successful applicants must have a bachelor’s degree, knowledge of development moves management and other prospect development techniques, at least seven years of fund-raising experience or four years of individual major gift experience, and demonstrated success facilitating the cultivation and solicitation of donors. Candidates must also have proficiency with Microsoft Office; excellent writing, speaking, interpersonal, and organizational skills; proven abilities to manage projects, set priorities, work within deadlines, and meet goals; and abilities to analyze, prioritize, and execute work, and operate with considerable independence and as an effective member of the team. Additionally, applicants must be flexible and able to balance a variety of activities, and have sound judgment, willingness to take initiative, and ability to keep matters confidential.

Candidates must also have valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations; ability and willingness to travel by car, plane, and train; and ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends. Preferred applicants will have experience working in higher education and a successful track record of working with volunteers and board members. Final candidates will be subject to credit, criminal history, and motor vehicle background checks.
