Primary responsibilities will be to teach undergraduate and graduate music education courses, supervise student teachers, actively recruit for the department, and establish professional contacts with music educators in area public schools.
The Department of Music is a component of the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. There are 10 full-time and 45 part-time faculty, with approximately 150 undergraduate majors and 35 graduate students. Undergraduate programs include a B.A. in Music, a B.S. in Education (Music Education), B.S. degrees in Music Business, Jazz and Commercial Music, Performance, Theory/Composition and History/Literature, and a B.A. Pre-Med/Pre-Health with a Concentration in Music. Graduate degrees include an M.S. in Music Education and M.A. degrees in Music Education.
Qualifications:Doctorate required in Music Education. A minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching music at the elementary or secondary level in a public school setting, evidence of successful recruiting ability, and professional activity in music education at the state/national level is required. Previous college teaching experience is preferred.
