The EHSO will have primary responsibility for overseeing and coordinating Hofstra University’s laboratory health and safety activities. The EHSO will serve as the University’s chemical hygiene officer and biosafety officer, and responsibilities will include development and evaluation of standard operating guidelines, laboratory inspections, provision of guidance and training, maintaining inventory of chemicals and other hazardous materials, hazard assessment, and spill response.

The University EHSO reports to the Vice Provost for Scholarship and Research and is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as University policies. The EHSO will liaise with numerous constituencies on campus, including faculty, administrators, the Environmental Safety Committee, the Hazardous Waste Coordinator, and others to ensure environmental health and safety on campus.
Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering or equivalent (BSc); Master’s degree preferred
•6 years of relevant experience in EHS, Bio Safety, Process Safety, or Risk Management
•Must have experience dealing with a complex regulatory framework and multiple regulatory bodies; knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to employee health and safety and hazardous waste management
•One or more of the following certifications: CIH, CSP, CBSP
•Valid New York State Driver’s License
