Music - Faculty Fellow, Music Theory/Composition Date: 10/12/2018 The Department of Music at Colby College invites applications for a one-year Faculty Fellow (4/5 time sabbatical replacement) in Music (music theory/acoustic and electronic composition) beginning September 1, 2019. The department seeks a theorist/composer with a specialization in contemporary music and a strong commitment to a liberal arts education. College teaching experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities include teaching an introductory music theory course, a late-19th century-to-present music history course for majors, and two electives. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community. Applications from candidates with additional experience in sound studies, music for film and video, the composition and theory of EDM, sound engineering/mixing, and/or DJ experience are especially welcome.
To apply, please submit applications through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/55392. Include a cover letter outlining interests and specific qualifications for the position, CV, three letters of recommendation, a statement of teaching philosophy and research interests, and a representative sample of recent scholarship/research in progress. The department would also appreciate a list of the candidate’s ideas for possible elective offerings and a description of how the candidate sees these classes contributing to a rigorous music curriculum in a liberal arts setting. Application materials can include hyperlinks to audio/video files within the relevant application documents but the department requests that physical copies of recordings and/or publications not be sent unless requested.
