CLAFLIN UNIVERSITY, founded in 1869, is the oldest historically black college or university in the state of South Carolina. DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC:The Claflin University Department of Music is an institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Its degree requirements are in accordance with the latest published regulations of that association. The department is also accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
RESPONSIBILITIES:The Department Chair serves as the chief administrative officer responsible for all administrative and leadership aspects of a degree-granting department consisting of approximately seventy students majors in two programs of study. Duties include budget planning, personnel management, facilities management, and the daily supervision of nine full-time and seven adjunct faculty. Additional teaching responsibilities may include other courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. The Department Chair is also expected to participate fully in departmental recruitment activities within the state and nationally, campus committee service, performance, and research obligations consistent with all faculty appointments.
QUALIFICATIONS:D.M.A., Ph.D. or Ed. D. required. The successful candidate will have significant experience and documented record of success as a music educator at the collegiate level. Administrative experience and a thorough knowledge of NASM policies and procedure are preferred.
SALARY: Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
