RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Art at Claflin University is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Art Education to begin fall 2018. The Assistant/Associate Professor will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Art Education, supervising student teachers, and monitoring program compliance with accreditation standards for Art Education for both CAEP and NASAD. We seek an applicant who will build relationships with K-12 educators throughout the region, help grow the Art Education major, and provide leadership in curriculum development and credential preparation.

Additional teaching responsibilities will include painting or sculpture, art appreciation, or other studio art courses. He/She should have a commitment to excellent teaching and college service, including participation in student advising, assessment, recruitment, and retention. The Assistant/Associate Professor will act as liaison with other appropriate sectors of the campus responsible for teacher education and with the PreK-12 community. He/She must demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional memberships and research activities in the field.

QUALIFICATIONS:Ph.D. in Art Education or Ed.D. in Education with an Art Emphasis; three years art teaching experience in the K-12 US school system (or equivalent) and college level teaching; and K-12 credential required. The successful candidate will possess the credentials and experience to teach a wide range of studio art courses and maintain an active professional practice. The candidate must have a comprehensive knowledge of Art Education theory and pedagogy and evidence of an active scholarly and/or creative activity.

SALARY: Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
