Adjunct ESL Instructors, Intensive English Language Program

Claflin University (Orangeburg, SC) seeks a dedicated team of adjunct instructors for an upcoming 16-week session of the Intensive English Language Program (IELP). This session will run from Monday, March 27 to Friday, July 14, future teaching opportunities may be available. The IELP serves international students and working professionals who need additional English instruction. We are seeking qualified instructors to help us fulfill our mission of improving our students’ language skills and preparing them for academic and professional success.

Currently we need instructors to teach a group of recent high school graduates from Panama, with coursework focusing on English, people skills, and leadership. Applicants should be passionate teachers who show exceptional classroom skills, whose interest in language teaching and learning engages students, and who can fully prepare students for American university life. Instructors who are highly motivated and dedicated to professional development are especially encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting directly to the Director of the IELP, adjunct instructors teach up to 15 hours per week in the program, and also carry out other duties assigned by the Director. Instructors are needed in the areas of pronunciation, speaking, listening, grammar, reading, and writing. Applicants must have native or near-native English proficiency levels, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse locations and cultures.

QUALIFICATIONS: Adjunct instructor candidates should have university-level ESL teaching experience, preferably in an intensive English language program. Specifically, they must have a Master’s degree or PhD degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or ESL Education in hand. We will also consider candidates with a Master’s degree in English, Linguistics, or Education, and candidates who have a TESOL Certificate.

CLOSING DATE: The program will begin by March 20, 2017. Review of applications will start immediately and continue until all positions are filled.

SALARY: The salary is highly competitive among universities in the region.
