Claflin University (Orangeburg, SC) seeks a dedicated team of adjunct instructors for its new Intensive English Language Program (IELP). The IELP serves international college students who need additional English instruction before entering the university full-time. We are seeking qualified instructors to help us fulfill our mission of improving our international students’ language skills and preparing them for academic success at Claflin University.

Specifically, we are seeking passionate teachers who show exceptional classroom skills, whose interest in language teaching and learning engages students, and who fully prepare students for American university life. Instructors who are highly motivated and dedicated to professional development are especially encouraged to apply.


Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Director of the IELP, adjunct instructors teach up to 20 hours per week in the program, and carry out other duties assigned by the Director. Instructors are needed in the areas of pronunciation, speaking, listening, grammar, reading, and writing. Applicants should have native or near-native English proficiency levels, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse locations and cultures.

Qualifications: Candidates should have university-level ESL teaching experiences, preferably in an intensive English language program. Candidates should have a Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or ESL Education. We also consider candidates with a Master’s degree in English, Linguistics, or Education, and candidates who have a TESOL Certificate.

Closing Date: Classes will begin by August. Review of applications will start immediately and continue until all positions are filled.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and credentials.
