Position InformationJob Title Security Guard - HOURLY Positions are Fill-In/As Needed Basis Working Title Security Guard - HOURLY Requisition Number 062191 Department Police Department Location No Response Job Description College will establish a pool of applicants for fill-in Security Guard for neighborhood Higher Education Centers. Position assignment days/hours/center sites are on an as needed basis - (Monday-Thursday from 8 AM-10 PM, Friday from 8 AM- 5 PM, Saturday from 8 AM - 5 PM)

Under direction and supervision of an Administrator, patrols and monitors College grounds, buildings or designated events, or maintains a post at entrance to an assigned location. Acts to safeguard life and property and enforce College regulations and departmental procedures. Assists in responding to emergencies in accordance with the College's Emergency Management Procedures. Provide assistance, protection, and information to persons in a professional and cordial manner Description of Duties/Selection Criteria Endeavors to create a positive image for the Police Department and the College.

Sit or stand at assigned post, maintain orderly flow of individuals leaving or entering building. Observe individuals entering or departing the building to ensure their safe and orderly conduct. Inspect packages of a suspicious nature to prevent theft of college property or the introduction of contraband.

Conduct patrols of College grounds, buildings and designated events by car, on foot or on bicycle. Detect, observe, report and/or respond to any activity that may be in violation of College regulations. Check the condition of buildings and take steps to protect them from fire damage and theft.

Give verbal warning to individuals who fail to observe college regulations or individuals acting in a disorderly manner. May question and detain disorderly persons until the arrival of a Police Officer.

Report any unsafe campus condition to the Facilities Department and where possible, temporarily secure the area to prevent personal injury or damage to property.

Regulate and control pedestrian and vehicular traffic when necessary to assure safe and reasonably rapid movement of traffic with a minimum of interference.

Visually inspect and secure all doors and buildings when the College opens and close and secure all doors and buildings when the College closes.

Assist in responding to campus emergencies in accordance with College Emergency Management procedures.

Acts to ensure safety of visitors and attendees of College special events. Provide crowd control and help to maintain order.

Understand and be familiar with alarm systems and make recommendations for burglar alarms and servicing of alarms on main campus and Higher Education Centers.

Assist the college staff, students, and visitors wherever possible in a professional courteous manner. Provide general assistance to all persons on the campus, including providing information regarding campus locations, special events and campus regulations.

Administer first aid in the case of accidents, sudden illness, injury or emergency and reports such accidents to the appropriate health care provider including the College Nurse or EMT.

Will also:
-Provide testimony in court
-Act as dispatcher when assigned to Police headquarters

Inspects and properly maintain all assigned equipment.

Comply with all applicable rules, regulations and procedures as stipulated in the Police Manual.

Complies with all lawful orders and instructions from supervisor.

Submit reports as required.

Wear uniform in a neat and clean fashion Minimum Qualifications High School diploma required or equivalent. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass a comprehensive background investigation. Must have well developed interpersonal skills. Ability to operate campus communications devices. Is expected to act in a courteous professional manner with all constituents. Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations (i.e. overtime, expertise in, physical requirements, flexible in schedule, travel, preferred qualifications, etc) Nature of work may require exposure to serious dangerous well as unpleasant conditions such as noise, dust, fumes, waster material, bodily fluids and/or adverse weather conditions.

Must be able to climb ladders to roof tops/attics, reach, crouch in basements or crawl spaces, run a reasonable distance without difficulty, lift, push or pull a person weighing a minimum of 125lbs.

Must be able to sit or stand, walk or operate bicycle for extended periods. Occasional exposure to weather conditions.

Prior police and/or security guard experience desirable.
