The part-time Technical Support Specialist will assist with the day to day technical support operations of the Information Technology Services department for the Bergen Community College faculty, staff, and students. This position reports directly to the Service Desk Manager and responsibilities consists of providing support at Help Desk service station on service ticket intake, updates on ticket status, and full cycle completion of problem requests; responding to clients inquiries concerning systems operation; providing instruction in use of equipment, software and manuals; assisting on entry level network tasks and systems administration such as network account maintenance. This individual will load specific software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite or its components into end user’s computer. In addition, diagnose and correct system software and user problems; provide back up support correcting hardware; repair and replace components and/or entire systems, installing hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners, network cards including wireless, and disk drives on user’s premises; and performing additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Service Desk Manager, Managing Director of User Support Services, and/or designated management.

Qualifications:

Required: Associates Degree or currently enrolled in an upper division degree at a four year institution is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of six months related experience required. Experience working in and/or knowledge of higher education industry or a similar environment a plus. Must possess a strong level of organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and critical thinking skills; must be driven to provide excellent customer service with ability to develop collaborative relationships with diverse and multicultural students, staff, faculty and visitors with sensitivity and diplomacy; detail oriented, self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team in a collaborative manner; must have excellent expertise in computer skills of MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or Apple iMac operating systems; Familiarity with standard computer hardware and business software packages; must have ability to exercise good judgment, as well as, ability to understand and follow established protocols; Be able to lift and carry minimum of 10 lbs and up to 50 lbs. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
