Allegheny College, a small selective liberal arts college located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Director of Public Safety. This is a full-time exempt administrative position reporting to the Vice President & Dean of Students.

The Director of Public Safety is responsible for all aspects of campus safety and security at Allegheny College and provides leadership for a comprehensive program that includes law enforcement services for students, faculty and staff. As a member of the Student Affairs division, the Director is further expected to maintain office hours in the Office of Public Safety Office and to highly visible on campus and respond to campus emergencies as appropriate.

The Director supervises a professional staff that includes 14 full-time and part-time staff and is responsible for leading and managing a department focused on campus security, personal safety , and the overall welfare of all those that use the facilities and attend College programs. To attain these objectives, the Director works closely with members of the community to lead a comprehensive Sworn Police department that provides services for students, employees, and visitors to campus.

The preferred qualifications for this position are a bachelor’s degree in a related area and leadership experience in law enforcement and/or campus security. The demonstrated ability to lead a sworn police department is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in investigating crimes and criminal prosecution. Additionally, an understanding of Student Affairs work in a small, residential, liberal arts college will be viewed positively.
