Associate Vice President for Facilities Management

Tracking Code286-280 Job Description

Stetson University, the oldest private university in Florida founded in 1883, is seeking an Associate Vice President (AVP) for Facilities Management. The AVP for Facilities Management position is based at the historic campus in DeLand, which houses the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Music and the duPont-Ball Library. Nicknamed The Athens of Florida, Deland is a picturesque residential community of 32,000, just 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. Recognized as one of the top small towns in America by Parade Magazine, CNN and the Orlando Sentinel, DeLand is the quintessential college town and offers extensive cultural and recreational activities.

Stetson’s 175-acre historic campus in DeLand is an inviting blend of old and new. Traditional in style, it features brick architecture, large oaks and sable palms, native-plant landscaping, winding walkways and a grassy quadrangle with a beautiful, illuminated fountain at its center. Recognized in 1991 as a National Historic District, the historic campus includes Florida’s oldest collection of buildings designed for educational use. DeLand Hall, the oldest building in Florida in continuous use for higher education, houses the Office of the President and other key administrative offices. The DeLand campus also includes a recently acquired 10-acre site on nearby Lake Beresford. The new Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center is used for research and education initiatives of the Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience and houses Stetson’s men’s and women’s Division I crew teams.

In addition to the DeLand campus, the AVP for Facilities Management is also responsible for Stetson’s Center at Celebration Florida and the College of Law and Tampa Law Center in the beautiful Tampa Bay area of Florida. The Stetson University Center at Celebration, located on 1.1 acres in the town of Celebration just outside Orlando, offers master’s degrees and professional programs in Business Administration and Counseling and Education. Built in 2001, it features high-tech classrooms and extends Stetson’s reach in Central Florida to working professionals seeking advanced education and degrees. Stetson’s College of Law relocated in 1954 from DeLand to Gulfport/St. Petersburg on a beautiful 25-acre campus, which features Spanish-Mediterranean architecture. The campus was originally constructed in the 1920s as a luxury resort. The College of Law offers the juris doctor and master of laws degrees, and dual degrees with Stetson’s School of Business Administration. The law campus features state-of-the-art classrooms, library facilities and courtrooms – including the Eleazer Courtroom, a national model for providing courtroom access to the elderly. The Tampa Law Center, on 6.8 acres in downtown Tampa, opened in 2004 and has stimulated more than $100 million in new development in the surrounding community. This satellite campus houses evening classes, conferences, seminars and the Tampa branch of Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (EVP & CFO), this position will serve as the key facilities leader orchestrating the strategic development and oversight of Stetson’s campus plans, physical plants and sustainability initiatives. The University demonstrates its commitment to our outstanding facilities through the campus operating budgets as well as annual funding for facility renewal and replacement. In addition to supporting the EVP & CFO, the AVP for Facilities Management supports the Facilities Management Committee of the Board of Trustees and is a member of the University Emergency Management Team.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The AVP for Facilities Management will oversee all aspects of facilities operations for Stetson’s four locations in DeLand, Celebration, Tampa, and Gulfport, Florida, which total 1.6 million building square feet on 218 acres. The AVP for Facilities Management provides direction and leadership to teams delivering daily care of campus facilities and services including plant operations and maintenance, building repairs, grounds care, custodial operations, fleet maintenance, project and construction management and facility renewal and replacement. In addition, this position leads the University efforts in conservation of energy and water, recycling, and other facility-related sustainability efforts.
