Position Description

Adjunct faculty can teach in any area of the college including providing training to business and industry through our Business and Industry Solutions division. Adjunct faculty can teach a maximum of 12 student contact hours per week averaged over the semester. The instructor is primarily responsible for creating a learning and teaching environment for students in accordance with the educational objectives of the college.

Duties & Responsibilities

The instructor is primarily responsible for creating a learning and teaching environment for students in accordance with the educational objectives of the college.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Teach units of instruction to students in higher education programs, adult and continuing education courses, or economic development activities as follows:

  • Meet classes as assigned
  • Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course
  • Maintain accurate attendance and scholastic records of students
  • Respond to student questions
  • Participate in the college's assessment process
  • Validate that learning has taken place
  • Submit required reports
2. Plan learning activities and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles to help students achieve course outcomes.

3. Assist with maintaining a classroom/laboratory/shop environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.

4. Use course text, outlines, syllabi, and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and department guidelines.

5. Participate in communications with the college, department, and team. Meet response deadlines as required.

6. Participate in professional development and in-service activities.

7. Willing/able to meet Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, accreditation standards, and/or licensing standards where applicable. After being hired, meet and maintain qualifications and training requirements as required by the Wisconsin Technical College System and other licensing agencies.

Qualifications

Academic instructors:

  • General Education: Master's degree with 18 credits in the content area required (English, Math, Natural Science, Economics, Social Science)
  • Basic Education: Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Adult Education or Specials Needs Education OR Bachelor's with DPI certification (or 20 semester credits) in any area taught at Elementary Education or Secondary Education levels AND 3 credits or Reading Instruction and/or Teaching Methods.
  • Occupational area (Business, Health, IT, Technical & Trades, etc.): Education and training in the occupational area being taught, and at least 4,000 hours of directly related work experience within the last five years, one year of post-secondary teaching in content area may substitute for 2,000 required hours.
