About us: Nicolet College, is a comprehensive two-year college located on the shores of Lake Julia in Wisconsin's beautiful North Woods region. We seek a thoughtful, innovative, enthusiastic, and student-friendly professional to join our team as a full-time Nurse Educator. The Nursing Instructor will report directly to the Dean of Health Occupations and will provide classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction in a variety of Associate Degree Nursing courses. The position may require the provision of instruction in other health occupation courses depending upon institutional needs.

Responsibilities will be at the Rhinelander Campus and designated outreach and clinical locations with variable hours depending upon the individual teaching assignment. Office hours will be maintained in accordance with the college requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Facilitate Learning

• According to statewide aligned curriculum, develop, maintain and deliver performance- based learning- centered instruction. This instruction reflects the mission/vision and philosophy of the health occupations programs and Nicolet College.
• Utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning as well as other aspects of work.
• Maintain accurate scholastic records of students and submit required reports according to published deadlines.
• Maintain office hours in accordance with NATC requirements.
• Carry out various teaching strategies appropriate to student learning needs which incorporate the NATC Core abilities, Nursing Program outcomes and specific course content competencies.
• Base teaching methods in educational theory and evidenced- based practices.
• Participate in on-going education so as to promote professional growth and to improve teaching practices.
• Model critical thinking and clinical reasoning for students in a variety of classroom and clinical settings and promote opportunities for students to develop these skills.
• Maintain professional practice knowledge in order to help students prepare for contemporary nursing practice.
• Develop working relationships with students, faculty, and clinical agency staff to promote positive learning environments.
• Maintain current RN licensure, certification, CEUs in area of expertise.
• Use technology to provide educational modalities to diverse learners.

Facilitate Learner Development and Socialization

• Assist students by providing guidance regarding their academic career path and professional nursing opportunities.
• Engage in student retention strategies as appropriate.
• Identify specific student learning styles so as to facilitate optimal learning opportunities for individual students with specific learning needs.
• Provide guidance and resources to students so as to meet their individual learning needs.
• Promote learning environments that are geared toward socialization to the role of the professional nurse within the larger professional nursing community.

Use Assessment and Evaluation Strategies

• Conduct clinical and didactic evaluation of students.
• Use various methods to assess and evaluate student learning in a variety of cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains.
• Use assessment and evaluation data to enhance teaching and learning.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.

Participate in Curriculum Design and Evaluation of Program Outcomes

• Develop, maintain, and improve program and courses by working collaboratively with nursing faculty, administrators, and the WTCS statewide curriculum committee through program review, curriculum and course development, assessment of student learning and input from the Nursing Program Advisory committee.
• Develop syllabi and curriculum in a performance based instruction model (WIDS).
• Ensure curriculum reflects the NATC mission/vision and philosophy, current nursing and healthcare trends, and community and societal needs to prepare graduates for practice in a complex and ever-changing multicultural health care environment.

Function as a Change Agent and Leader

• Act as a role model for ethnic and cultural diversity when advocating for change.
• Provide leadership at both the college and program level to enhance the visibility of contributions to the local and regional communities.
• Develop leadership skills to shape and implement growth and positive change.
• Acknowledge and accept changes in curriculum, methods of delivery and flexibility in scheduling.

Pursue Continuous Quality Improvement in the Nurse Educator Role

• Demonstrate a commitment to life-long learning.
• Use feedback from self, peer, student, and administrative evaluations to improve role effectiveness.
• Act as mentor for new faculty colleagues.
• Participate in professional organizations and activities that facilitate socialization to the nurse educator role.
• Research best practices and adapt curriculum accordingly.

Engage in Scholarship

• Participate in performance appraisal and pursue professional development activities specific to professional nursing and teaching and learning practices.
• Maintain professional affiliations and certifications.
• Demonstrate qualities of a scholar which include; integrity, courage, perseverance, vitality, and creativity.

Function within the Educational Environment

• Maintain professional, educational, and clinical relationships through networking and participating in professional organizations as well as through the Nursing Program Advisory Committee.
• Represent the College and interact with communities and external organizations including the University of Wisconsin System and other four year colleges, the Wisconsin Technical College System, district high schools and employers, Native American tribal communities, advisory committees and professional groups related to the Nursing Profession.
• Promote articulations with high schools as well as the four year degree colleges.
• Participate in department activities including department meetings.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Master of Science Degree in Nursing.
• Minimum of two years (4,000 hours) of verifiable occupational work experience as a Registered Nurse. One year (2,000 hours) must be within the last five years.
• Current license or eligibility for licensure to practice as a registered nurse in Wisconsin.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Recent acute care clinical experience.
• Employment experience in a variety of professional nursing settings.
• Knowledge of emerging healthcare trends and implications for healthcare education.
• Ability and motivation to effectively teach students of varied ages, learning styles, academic levels, and cultural backgrounds in classroom and non-classroom settings. Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary setting.
• Ability and motivation to work both independently and collaboratively to create and facilitate student learning.
• Experience with alternative delivery methods: Internet, teleconferencing, streaming video, multiple learning platforms, and Accelerated Learning methods.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and maintain positive working relationships across the college and within the district.

• Maintain health requirement, current health care criminal background check, and American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare providers as required by the clinical agencies.
• The employee must demonstrate strong attention to detail, and must be able to problem solve and perform complex tasks without error.
• The employee must be able to read and understand documents/displays, type, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to normal office conditions and usual office equipment, as well as a variety of health care agencies and related equipment.
• The employee must have gross motor skills: ability to maintain balance, move within confined spaces, reach, push, pull, or stabilize and move and/or lift 50 pounds.
• The employee must have fine motor skills: pick up and grasp small objects, pinch/squeeze or work with fingers, twist/turn objects using hands.
• The employee must maintain physical endurance (work on your feet 8 hours or more).
• The employee must maintain mobility: ability to squat, stand, walk, and climb stairs.
• Specific hearing abilities required by this job include hear normal speaking-level sounds, hear faint voices or whispers.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include see objects up to 20 inches away, see objects up to 20 feet away, use depth perception, use peripheral vision, distinguish color and color intensity.
• The employee must use tactile senses: feel vibrations, detect temperature (skin, solutions, environmental), feel differences in surface characteristics.
