GENERAL DUTIES

Supports research projects and activities in connection with CUNY programs

• May assist faculty research groups by configuring and testing equipment, collecting and organizing data, and preparing documentation.

• Performs direct research tasks under supervision.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Research Assistant reports directly to Dr. Danielle Berke of the Gender Based Violence Research Lab at Hunter College. The Gender Based Research Lab is dedicated to the study of interpersonal violence. Research projects in the Gender Based Violence Research Lab involve evidence-based initiatives related to violence prevention and intervention efforts to generate solutions to gender based social inequities. As this laboratory will be in its first year of operation, the research assistant will gain first-hand experience in all aspects of setting up a research program for long-term success, such as applying for early-career grant funding, purchasing laboratory equipment, and creating databases from the ground up. Other responsibilities include assisting with key research functions including data management and organization, grant administration, conducting literature reviews, editing scholarly articles and IRB applications, support of manuscript preparation, assisting with participant recruitment, enrollment, and scheduling, and administrative tasks in support of lab projects.

In addition to the General Duties, responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Team with staff on writing, research, and data analyses.

• Assist with organizing research-related events and conferences.

• Prepare analytical and statistical reports for management.

• Prepare, manipulate, and monitor databases; provide assistance with the preparation of lab-related research data; perform statistical analyses of data using SPSS and Mplus; and coordinate database activities including verifying the accuracy and validity of data entered in databases and correcting any errors.

This position is a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal for a second year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience relevant to the research being performed.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will possess:

• Master's degree in psychology, statistics, public health or other related field.

• Training and experience in applied statistics strongly preferred.

• Training in psychology or public health is desirable. A minimum of 1-2 years of work experience is desirable.

• Essential Software skills: SPSS for descriptive and statistical analysis.

• Advanced Skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Etc)

• Outstanding communications and writing skills.

• Ability to work independently and with small groups in academic settings

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
