Description

To assist in the coordination of the academic subject matter of the Nursing program; to instruct classes, clinicals, and labs in assigned division; to coordinate assigned activities; to provide highly responsible nursing student supervision and support to the Director, Nursing Program.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions:

  1. Plan and participate in the instruction of classes, lab or clinical for the Nursing program; prepare supplemental materials and tests; maintain accurate records of student atten­dance and performance.
  2. Instruct varying contact hours from 12-25 per semester; assist in the preparation of objectives, assignments, and course syllabus; evaluate text books, and prepare instructional materials and aids.
  3. Assist full-time faculty with objectives and course outlines for each class; begin and end each scheduled meeting on time; turn in reports, final grades and other forms on time; revise course content and objectives as needed; and administer student evaluations.
  4. Participate in the development, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of the program curriculum activities and operations of the nursing program.
  5. Participate in the development of the Nursing work plan; participate in work activities; coordinate work products, methods and proce­dures.
  6. Assist in the development of the instructional schedule, and syllabi. Ensure instruction meets the needs of the students and community.
  7. Participate in the academic program's efforts to recruit and retain students.
  8. Participate in the selection, evaluation, use and maintenance of equipment and facilities assigned to the program.
  9. Participate in scheduled nursing faculty meetings, seminars and clinical agencies' competency workshops; stay abreast of new developments in the assigned area of study by attending professional meetings, continuing education workshops, and clinical site orientation for updates and changes.
  10. Participate in Nursing program content to ensure adherence to State and National standards.
  11. Provide the Director, Nursing Program with current, unrestricted NC registered nurse license at time of renewal.
  12. Assist in developing, preparing, documenting, and presenting assigned courses of instruction.
  13. Assist in developing, implementing and enforcing program and institutional policies.
  14. Make student clinical assignments to include orientation of nursing students to the clinical area, demonstration of proper procedures and clinical assignments, supervision of clinical performance, evaluation and counseling of each student as to progress and performance.
  15. Assist with lab and clinical orientation of nursing students.
Marginal Functions:
  1. Serve on a variety of committees and study groups; research and develop recommenda­tions related to academic and instructional programs; maintain contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of keeping instructional programs current with occupational or academic field.
  2. Participate in the development and delivery of public information efforts; support college functions/cultural activities; assist in the placement of students.
  3. Assist with inventory of program equipment; assume responsibilities for labs, shops and other facilities designed primarily for the Nursing program.
  4. Participate in community activities to promote the nursing program and nursing profession.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to:
Interpret and apply college and assigned division goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Contribute to the development of academic mission, goals and objectives which complement those of the college.
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Provide classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to students.
Follow all safety rules and regulations of the Department.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Operate a variety of mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:

standing or sitting for extended periods of time
moderate lifting and carrying
operating assigned equipment.Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:making observations
reading and writing
operating assigned equipment
communicating with others
handling varied tasks simultaneously.Maintain mental capacity which permits:making sound decisions and using good judgment

periodically working irregular hours. Experience and Training

Experience:
Two years of experience as a registered nurse in acute care setting.

Training:
Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university required; Master's degree in nursing education preferred.
Prior to or within first three years of employment, must have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation and evaluation, appropriate to assignment.

License or Certificate:
Possession of a current unrestricted license or multi-state licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.

Since the college's humble beginnings in the early 1960's, CCC&TI has grown by leaps and bounds, adding facilities to its Caldwell Campus including a job training center, increased classroom space and buildings, the Broyhill Civic Center, the John A. Forlines Building, The Broyhill House, the Transportation and Public Services Center, and the Faye. A. Broyhill Building which houses the Appalachian State University Center. CCC&TI has also added new facilities in Watauga County and offerings for students in that area continue to grow.
