Augusta University/University of Georgia (AU/UGA) Medical Partnership is recruiting a full time Internal Medicine Associate Program Director in Athens, GA for our three-year categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Background Information:

Augusta University and University of Georgia have partnered to create a four-year medical education program in Athens, GA, to help alleviate a statewide shortage of physicians that threatens the health of Georgians. The AU/UGA Medical Partnership combines the significant instructional and research resources of UGA, the flagship land grant research university, with the expertise of the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, Georgia’s public medical school. The AU/UGA Medical Partnership has partnered with St. Mary’s Healthcare System as the major participating site to sponsor a three-year categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program in Athens, GA. The program received accreditation in 2014 for 30 residents and participated in the National Residency Match Program for its first class in July 2015.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a dynamic, innovative academic medical educator with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to join the leadership team of the categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program as an Associate Program Director. This position will offer enormous possibilities for developing and enhancing skills, leadership ability, and personal growth. Successful applicants will be responsible for supervision and teaching of residents in an outpatient practice as an academic medical educator. In addition, this position will have scholarly, and administrative responsibilities as well. The position is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor commensurate with experience.



General Responsibilities:

· Participate in the development and execution of a comprehensive and quality improvement curricula including didactics, supervising resident projects, and M&M/QI conference.

· Work closely with and supervise the Chief Resident in his/her activities such as Morning Report and scheduling Academic Half-Day.

· Participate in recruitment of residents including reviewing applications and interviews.

· Take a leadership role in an area such as Quality Improvement, Research, Mentoring and Advising, Resident Wellness, and/or rotation development.

· Participate in the clinical practice of the Ambulatory/Outpatient Residency Practice including supervising residents in the ambulatory practice.

· Participate in scholarly activities including publishing and disseminating new and original work in peer-reviewed venues and mentoring residents to publish and disseminate their work in peer-reviewed venues including conferences.

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties
  • Able to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia
  • Able to obtain appropriate hospital credentials and privileges
  • Able to obtain an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license
