Job Summary
The Division of Science, Mathematics and Health Professions at Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC), a four-year, degree-granting institution of the University System of Georgia, is seeking highly skilled and motivated Biology Laboratory Professionals to join our enthusiastic team of STEM Professors.
THE POSITIONThe Laboratory Professional in Biology, is a Non-Tenure Track full-time, twelve-month position that reports to the Dean of the Division of Science, Mathematics, and Health Professions (SMHP). The successful candidate should have at least one (1) year of demonstrated undergraduate collegiate teaching experience (biology majors and/or non-majors lectures and/or laboratory courses). Assigned courses may be offered during the day, evenings, weekends and/or online.
The Division offers a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biological Science which emphasizes cellular and molecular biology, genetics, immunology, virology, neurobiology, biochemistry, biotechnology and medical microbiology. In addition, the Division strives to impart to its student’s data analysis and contemporary laboratory skills. Accordingly, the incumbent may be required to assist undergraduate Biological Science Majors with research projects. Teaching load for the Laboratory Professional in Biology will consist of an average of 7-12 laboratory contact hours per semester, and approximately 20 hours per week coordinating and preparing majors and non-majors laboratories.

Responsibilities
- Determining laboratory requirements & prepares laboratory materials.
- preparing laboratories for STEM and Non-STEM Laboratory coursesconsulting with the appropriate lecture/laboratory instructors,setting up and testing equipment for student and/or instructor use prior to each scheduled lab,initiating and coordinating laboratory renovations and repairs,
- collaboratively working with the Director of Environmental and Health Safety assisting faculty in directing undergraduate research students;keeping current with safety regulations,establishing, updating and maintaining the safety policy within the Biology Laboratorieschecking and maintaining safety equipment,maintaining the MSDS inventory in the Biology laboratories.
A Master’s degree is required with a minimum of eighteen graduate semester hours (30 graduate quarter hours) in upper level biology or closely-related courses (i.e. Anatomy & Physiology, Biostatistics, Biochemistry, Cellular & Molecular Biology, and/or Microbiology) from a regionally accredited college or university. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
Preference will be given to applicants:
- with at least three (3) years of demonstrated collegiate level teaching experience of students from diverse backgrounds.eligible to teach biotechnology, microbiology and/or cellular & molecular laboratory courses.with a proven/successful record of grantsmanship
