Job Summary


The Testing and Assessment Specialist is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation of the Testing Department, the supervision of test takers, and coordination of assigned personnel within the testing areas.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Supervises and administers a large variety of tests such as placement, admission, certification and licensing exams as well as preforms tasks related to test scanning, scoring, and student feedback
  • Authorizes exceptions to test attempts outside of established norms through test assessment practices
  • Manages incidents and authorizes cancelation of tests should test takers become non-compliant
  • Maintains current knowledge of standardized test administration
  • Oversees test takers and supervises testing area to ensure policy and procedure compliance, and resolves student issues and problems about testing services and exams
  • Prepares and coordinates all aspects of the Departmental Test Schedule Assignment including part-time personnel, proctors and examiners, and testing services provided to students from other institutions
  • Assists the Director in hiring, guiding, training and providing feedback or coaching part-time staff in the performance of their duties
  • Assists the Director in recommending and implementing College policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Serves as liaison with other departments, such as New Student Center, ACCESS and Continuing Education; and works with high school feeder schools and other external agencies in the service areas as needed
  • Works closely with Network Service and Facilities Management to ensure that the Testing Labs meet the requirements of new testing software or updates implemented, and the security of examinations administered by the Department
  • Compiles data, prepares operational and statistical reports for billing purposes, and inputs student data into MDC computer system
  • Participates in events, training activities, and certification workshops
  • Interacts with other College departments and outside agencies regarding assigned functions
  • Serves on Campus and College Committees
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of related experience with a minimum of one (1) year experience in test administration
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College goals, objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain the strictest confidentiality concerning all testing information
  • Knowledge of College organization: testing, admission, advisement, registration, academic regulations, college policies and procedures, and programs of study
  • Knowledge of College activities and special programs
  • Possess excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and software applications
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work overtime during peak registration periods, which include evening and/or weekend assignments
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and some weekend assignments.
  • Ability to effectively maintain and work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
