Job Summary


Reporting to the Provost of Operations, this senior-level position provides leadership and oversight to the research, planning, assessment, and quality enhancement activities of the College. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Directs, plans and manages professional and staff activities for assessment and institutional research
  • Initiates and performs research and policy analyses relevant to anticipated institutional planning, policy, and decision-making needs
  • Leads College strategic planning processes including review, development, and monitoring implementation of plans
  • Plans, implements, and provides leadership in the development and maintenance of accessible data/information systems for institutional planning and assessment
  • Works directly with College leadership and campus personnel in obtaining data and related research for grants, program development, and other College projects
  • Develops statistical reports and provides specifications for computer reporting systems needed to meet institutional research needs
  • Provides relevant, timely, and accurate institutional information and reports to various College personnel, the public, and state/federal agencies for research and accountability purposes.
  • Provides institution-wide support for obtaining data and information and performing analyses in response to specific needs
  • Ensures College compliance with state and federal accountability reporting requirements
  • Supports and monitors the management of college-wide and program/discipline-specific student learning outcomes assessment to assure continually improved student learning
  • Assists the institution in identifying and understanding emerging trends and significant environmental changes to support the College in its planning and development efforts
  • Reviews pending legislation, legal mandated regulations, and guidelines which may affect college programs, functions and activities
  • Advises the Provost on higher education issues and enacts strategic analysis as directed
  • Represents the College to various institutional divisions as well as externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, and/or the general public/local community
  • Identifies and secures college-wide grants that strengthens and expand the College's educational opportunities
  • Recommends and participates in the development of College policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Doctorate degree and a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant senior-level management experience; or Master's degree and eight (8) years, including at least three (3) years of leadership in one of the following: assessment or institutional research
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Understanding of top management, academic, and student affairs administrative practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative educational research design and implementation
  • Knowledge of survey research design, sampling, and interpretation of results
  • Advanced understanding of higher education issues, of the current and emerging trends in institutional effectiveness, and of creative solutions
  • Advanced understanding of the policies, standards, and practices in higher education
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with strategic planning
  • Knowledge and ability in developing and creating data files, file management, and retrieving/analyzing information using statistical analysis software
  • Knowledge and skill of relevant statistical programs, computer data files, and relational databases in conducting research projects
  • Skill and ability to collect, analyze, verify, and manipulate research and statistical data and make recommendations
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management
  • Ability to develop and interpret financial data/plans and manage resources
  • Ability to think, reason, and make sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed in compliance with college standards and guidelines and to manage or impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, staff, and leaders
  • Ability to speak effectively to administrators, faculty, staff and students and to external groups

  • This function/position has been designated as essential. This means that when the College is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the College.
