Job Summary


The Academic Lab Manager organizes, controls, and supervises the general workflow of the day-to-day operation within an educational technology environment; to include but not limited to, maintenance of equipment, quality control, pricing, and purchasing. Provides professional customer service with students, tutors, advisors, faculty, and administrators to support students' development and improvement of specific skills.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Supports faculty; as well as, in the content areas in the assessment and diagnosis of student needs as evidenced by their performance
  • Supervises part-time lab instructors, includes hiring, scheduling and evaluation, documenting and maintaining payroll records
  • Arranges and implements annual training for lab staff both interdepartmentally and through College Training and Development establishing clear communication channels for areas to include systems and strategies to deal with a fast-moving and sometime unpredictable environment
  • Serves as a tutor in limited areas and assists with evaluating their performance
  • Serves as a back-up in peak periods in registering and scheduling students as assigned
  • Develops instructional materials including interactive computerized tutorials and tests as needed
  • Assists in registering and scheduling process for students as needed
  • Troubleshoots hardware/software issues and maintains lab equipment (software updates, imaging hard drives, etc) and administers lab server
  • Creates and maintains departmental databases and generates appropriate reports for the Chairperson and department
  • Keeps abreast of new technological developments to help improve productivity and support faculty with the integration of technology into classroom instruction
  • Compiles data and preparing reports in order to provide feedback on student progress to students, faculty, and Department Chairperson
  • Monitors student use of the lab and activities paying close attention to outages, bottlenecks, or other issues and makes recommendations to the Department Chairperson for corrections Identifying the needs for improvement in lab policy, procedure and processes
  • Selects maintaining and distributing hard-copy and electronic instructional materials
  • Manages and maintains the lab budgets and provides periodic reports to the Department Chairperson on expenditures and usage of college assets
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree and five (5) years of experience in classroom and/or lab instructional settings; or Master's degree and one (1) year of experience in classroom and/or lab instructional settings
  • All Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies and strong computer skills
  • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions form groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to supervise, in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale
  • Ability to promote and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
