Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. required in Social Work or a related field by the start of the appointment. M.S.W. and professional social work experience are preferred. An area of specialization in child maltreatment, child protective services, and/or child welfare systems is required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

An ability to teach in all program levels (i.e., undergraduate, master's, doctoral) is required. Prior teaching experience preferred. Applicants should show evidence of the potential for or demonstrated excellence in teaching. Applicants should show evidence of an ability to achieve excellence in a program of research related to child maltreatment, child protective services, and/or child welfare systems. Candidates for associate professor must meet criteria for appointment per UW guidelines for appointment and promotion.

Position Summary:

The School of Social Work seeks candidates for an opening at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenure-track) level. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in scholarly research, teaching, and outreach activities. Candidates will be expected to establish a state-of-the-art research program, develop and maintain extramural funding for their research program, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and perform School of Social Work, university, professional, and community service as appropriate. This position will focus on Child Welfare, with a focus in the area of child maltreatment, child protective services, and/or child welfare systems.

The School of Social Work is comprised of faculty and staff who work collaboratively to provide a high quality education and professional growth experiences for students. The School has several educational programs, and candidates will be expected to teach courses in social work across these programs. We are committed to providing a strong generalist orientation for BSW and first-year MSW students. We provide an advanced generalist focus with the second year MSW students to further advance their knowledge, skills, and professional integrity in generalist practice and allow for several areas of focus. We are committed to a very high-quality PhD program in social welfare and also to an undergraduate major in social welfare (a BA, different from our BSW). The School values the many strengths that diversity brings to our profession, and is committed to contributing to the diversification of the social work profession.
