Experience Requirement: A background in medical education is preferred with experience working in a pediatrics department at a medical school or in a residency program. A desire to teach at the Undergraduate and Graduate Medical Education levels is necessary.

Usual Duties: Serves the Sam Houston State University Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine, in the Department of Primary Care as faculty for pediatrics. Acts as a role model for medical students interested in Pediatrics and Pediatric subspecialties. The position reports to the Chair of Primary Care. The proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine is currently in applicant status and is seeking accreditation from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. The university will focus on primary care and other specialties identified as a physician workforce shortage in the State of Texas, and has developed an integrated curriculum merging basic science instruction with clinical learning including an osteopathic emphasis. The Pediatric Faculty will assist the Chair of the Department of Primary Care in development of the curriculum related to the care of children and the Pediatric systems course. Pediatric faculty will also be expected to teach in the Introduction to Clinical Medicine course, relate aspects of pediatric diagnosis and care in other systems courses, lead pediatric simulations in the simulation lab, pursue scholarship and research in the department, assure quality patient care and foster collaboration and interdisciplinary learning. Members of the Department of Primary Care will be expected to participate in lectures, the physical exam course, case-based learning sessions, preparation for clerkships, procedural skills training and OSCE's. The members of the department will also participate in the SHSU practice plan. The person selected must be comfortable working in preclinical and clinical education, as well as evaluation of curriculum and students through various learning and assessment methods. The department will be responsible for aiding GME programs affiliated with the COM in creating primary care residencies and supporting faculty development in pediatrics.

Degree Requirements: The successful candidate will have a DO or MD degree from an accredited medical school with residency training in Pediatrics, current AOA or ABMS board certification or eligibility, and eligibility for, or a current license to practice in Texas.

Other Requirements for the Position: Ability to communicate and work with other faculty, medical students, physician preceptors and college administration. Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills and capacity to demonstrate personal initiative and abilities to deal with a rapidly changing environment are essential. Note: This position is not currently tenure track and is a full-time, permanent contract position. If applicants would like to be placed on the tenure track, please address this in the cover letter.
