Advertised Job Summary: - Newsgathering, reporting and editing: Maintains regular communication with and builds networks of campus contacts, to include academic deans and department heads, to ambitiously promote the University, identifying and writing articles/stories for internal communications channels, including the university website, Upstate Magazine, an annual Fast Facts publication, and content for executive speeches. Works closely with the Communications/Content Manager to develop press releases and newsletter content, both for UMC and individual schools and colleges. Works closely with the Communications/Content Manager to ensure news stories for the website marry well with other content and represent the overarching goals of the university and individual units. Employing AP Style, serves as a primary editor for UMC and academic units, proofing and approving all published material. - Crisis communications: Participates in regular meetings of newly-formed Emergency Communications team, working closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Strategic Communications and Marketing and the Communications/Content Manager to prepare emergency alert messages and updates through the RA VE system. Leverages the USC Upstate website, identifies and promotes emergency response best practices with faculty and staff. - Other duties as assigned. - Planning and advising: Interacts and communicates clearly and confidently with campus partners and team members to determine communication and marketing needs on campus, and develops communications plans that can be shared with unit leaders, including UMC leadership. Identifies any resources needed for communications and marketing projects, and accounts for quality by communicating brand standards. Keeps UMC team members informed of all project statuses in real time via production management software, verbal communication and other reports. Participates in regular meetings with designated communications "super users."

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions): Master's degree and 3 years professional experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material, or Bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience. Successful background check is required.
