Job Information

Job Summary:

Research Professional works with Professor Sendhil Mullainathan (Chicago Booth) and Ziad Obermeyer (UC Berkeley School of Public Health) to manage field research, including establishing and maintaining relationships with field partners, coordinating data collection and entry, conducting statistical analysis and maintaining databases. Provide other support associated with faculty research.

This position is for one year, with the expectation of renewal for a second year. The preferred start date is July 1, 2019, although an earlier or later start date maybe accommodated.


  • Contacts potential field research partners, establishes and maintains relationships with those field partners.
  • Collects data, conducts complex statistical analysis, and organizes the presentation of results.
  • Creates charts, tables, and descriptive text for presentations.
  • Maintains databases, reviews background materials, and performs preliminary research.
  • Travel to work with lab partners at UC Berkeley may be required.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience or Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in any quantitative or life science field by start date required.

  • At least one year of research experience required.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and database organization and a willingness to further develop these skills required.
  • Relevant research experience preferred.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:
  • Familiarity with statistical software such as R preferred.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python preferred.
  • Knowledge of research techniques and methods required.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Excellent and professional verbal, written, and presentation skills as well as organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others and to meet deadlines under pressure required.
  • Strong computer skills required.
