The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools provide one of the world's most outstanding pre-collegiate educational experiences. Job Information

Job Summary:

As a complement to Lab's academic program, the Schools offer the opportunity to participate in a variety of University- and community-partnered programs designed to extend learning from the classroom into the real-world. These opportunities exist throughout the Schools and take place during the school year or the summer. Current programs include:

  • UChicago Charter School Partnership
  • Marine Biological Laboratory Partnership
  • Annual Artist Program
  • Internship for Civic Engagement
  • UChicago Faculty Lead Seminars
  • High Jump Student Partnership


Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Schools, the Partnership and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for creating, managing, and growing Lab's educational partnerships and outreach. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing partnership and outreach programming working with faculty, staff, students, external community partners, the University, and the southside communities of Chicago. The Coordinator will focus on designing opportunities to benefit the Schools, our students and the community, on strengthening existing programs, on implementmenting a set of strategies to enhance our engagement, and on anchoring Lab more firmly in our surrounding community. This position will support existing initiatives and relationships while creating new opportunities for Lab teachers, grade level teams, and departments. The Coordinator will ensure a collaborative partnership between Lab, the University and the City of Chicago building upon the relationships so that Lab serves as an equal resource to our partners. As Lab expands our work, the Coordinator will work towards greater partnerships with international schools and programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops programs and relationships to advance program initiatives within strategic framework
  • Manages UChicago Charter School Partnership
  • Uses knowledge of the divisional vision, values, and mission to assess, evaluate, and recommend opportunities for collaboration with partners
  • Supports broader student initiatives, leading administrative duties in support of the education programs during the academic year and over the summer
  • Plans, identifies, implements education outreach programming and establishes collaborative partnerships for on and off site initiatives
  • Coordinates program initiatives, ensuring unity of focus and purpose
  • Manages and grow existing partnerships already in practice at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools
  • Maintains parent resource database


Competencies:
  • Considerable experience working with students of high school age
  • Knowledge of the design and development of curriculum to support partnership activities
  • Skill in public speaking, presentations, and designing programs
  • Skill in utilizing computer software
  • Ability to prepare and maintain required reports and records
  • Ability to develop visual aids and other instructional materials to meet specific training needs
  • Ability to mediate differences in opinions of varying individuals and foster consensus on diverse issues
  • Ability to work flexible working hours
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately, orally and in writing with various individuals and groups
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups, educators, parents, civic associations and the general public as necessitated by the work
  • Familiarity with leading discussion on issue related to socio-economic and racial issues
  • Ability to negotiate agreements
  • Ability to support fundraising efforts


Additional Requirements

Education, Experience or Certifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Advanced degree in education or related discipline preferred


Experience:
  • 5-7 years of related experience required
  • Program management experience required
  • Experience supporting school partnership programs preferred
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Leadership experience in youth education preferred
  • Classroom experience preferred
  • Experience working with a wide range of students with diverse backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning abilities, class, language and nationality


Physical Demands:
  • Ability to move in and around the campus to interact with students, faculty, staff, parents, and other members of the community.
  • Ability to move work related equipment, as appropriate, around school property
