For over 25 years, the University of Chicago Consortium on School Research (UChicago Consortium) has informed solutions to the most difficult problems facing urban schools. The UChicago Consortium is committed to better understanding the fundamental practices and conditions that advance student learning, promote attainment, and foster more equitable outcomes. We conduct research of high technical quality that informs policy and practice in the Chicago Public Schools, and schools nationwide. A central component of our work is engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders and stimulating evidence-driven discourse about the vital issues facing schools. The Consortium has a long-standing data agreement with CPS and maintains a data archive with detailed records dating back to 1991, allowing for rigorous, detailed studies of policies and practices. The UChicago Consortium has been described as the 'gold standard‘ for education research-practice partnerships and has been replicated nationally. Our research has been an essential factor in improving outcomes for students and school staff in Chicago, and in school districts across the country. Job Information

Job Summary:

UChicago Consortium seeks a Director of Research Operations to serve with the Executive and Deputy Directors as a member of the Consortium senior leadership team, contributing to the mission and growth of the organization. The Director will oversee the Consortium's internal processes needed to support research studies and external relationships. He or she will set and guide the strategy for the Consortium's internal operations. The Director will maintain, strengthen, and develop relationships with the Chicago Public Schools.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee operations around project staffing and budgeting, including forecasting future funding needs, determining funding possibilities, and coordinating grant proposal writing and potential staffing for proposed work.
• Provide guidance to principal investigators on budgets, staffing, timelines and other administrative issues.
• Work closely with accounting, human resources, and information technology staff.
• Establish data sharing agreements and contracts with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and other external entities, and oversee agreements with affiliated and partner researchers.
• Maintain, strengthen, and develop relationships with local key constituents including Chicago Public. Schools.
• Supervise the data archivist and support the management of the data archive.

• Ability to take initiative and a proactive approach to tasks and projects. Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high level of work quality.
• Strong understanding of how to develop and maintain connections and relationships to make outreach efforts more effective.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, collaboratively, and in a supervisory role.
• Knowledge of Chicago Public Schools and/or urban education policy.
• Commitment to understanding and improving outcomes for students of all backgrounds and experiences.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience or Certifications:

Education:

• Advanced degree in a social science discipline, statistics, or business required.
• PhD preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in management at a nonprofit organization.
• Experience with developing and leading organization-wide strategy.
• Experience working in or with Local or State Education Agencies.
• Experience and success managing budgets and overseeing operations.
• Experience managing relationships with external stakeholders.
• Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
• Experience with administrative datasets and surveys preferred.
• Experience writing research grants.
