Position Summary

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is now accepting applications for a nine-month, non-tenure track lecturer position as Hair, Wig, Makeup Specialist in the School of Theatre, College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Position Description:
The School of Theatre seeks applications for a full-time Hair, Wig, Makeup Specialist to begin August 1, 2019. This position will work in close collaboration with the Costume Studio Manager and report to the Director of the School of Theatre.

Responsibilities include:
Design hair, wigs, and makeup for campus productions as needed for the main stage and studio series (8 - 10 productions) and the North Carolina Theatre for Young People (2 productions). Potential to design costumes for campus productions as needed.

Assist costume designers in wig and makeup design and advise student wig and makeup designers (both graduate and undergraduate students) in the realization of designs for campus productions.

Teach advanced makeup course in advanced makeup application techniques, prosthetic appliance creation and application.
Co-teach stagecrafts course in basic makeup techniques and basic sewing techniques.

Supervise wardrobe lab element of stagecraft courses (wardrobe running crew for performances), wig and makeup workshops, and strikes: attend crew watch, dress rehearsals, and strikes. Be on call for the run of each campus production.

Develop and teach wig styling and maintenance course.

Assist costume studio supervisor in: maintaining well-organized storage of costumes, accessories, and wig and makeup supplies; coordinating costume loans, including loan check out and return dates.
Collaborate in planning and scheduling standard activity generated by the School's Design and Technical Production area. Participate in student academic advising and recruitment activity (on and off campus) as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

BFA in wig and makeup design or commensurate degrees in theatre with extensive professional experience in the areas of wig and makeup design and application. Must have advanced skills in makeup techniques and applications, including air-brushing and special effects; expertise in wig styling and ventilating as well as in proper wig care; experience as a wardrobe supervisor and dresser; knowledge of costume and fashion history, particularly in makeup and hair styles. Should have basic expertise in general sewing techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong preference for candidates with a graduate degree in wig and makeup design and certification in cosmetology; experience working with students in a college theatre environment and in professional theatre. Experience working with digital design software is strongly desired. Applicants with appropriate training, ability, and/or professional experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered.
