Job Description Summary:
Southwestern Michigan College, a two-year college located approximately 30 minutes north of South Bend, Indiana, and approximately 30 minutes from Lake Michigan's eastern shore is seeking a Chemistry Adjunct Instructor.

Please note, this assignment may be taught at the Dowagiac or Niles campus.

SUMMARY:
The position is to teach Fundamentals of Chemistry, an introductory course designed for students with no chemistry background. The course consists of 3 hours of lecture and 2 hours of lab work per week. Instructors prepare their own labs and are expected to be accessible to students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
-Teach courses consisting of 3 hours of lecture and 2 hours of lab work per week
-Prepare labs and maintain a safe lab environment
-Be accessible to students
-Grade assignments and respond to student inquiries
-Provide timely feedback to students' questions and concerns
-Become familiar with rules, regulations, administrative practices, guidelines and policies of the College

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Science Education, or related field with chemistry coursework or related experience

Preferred Qualifications:
-Master’s Degree or higher in subject matter with previous teaching experience or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the duties of this position
-Community College teaching experience

Other Information:
All applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to students and facilitate student learning. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required.
