Student - Student Service Center Assistant

Job Description Summary:
The Student Service Center Assistant will provide basic administrative duties for the Student Service Center. The student will provide assistance to students and their family seeking degree and registration information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Greet walk-ins and explains basic information about the Student Service Center and how students can utilize the tools offered in the office
-Answer phone overflow
-Assists students with registration
-Use Banner to determine student requirements for testing and scheduling
-Performs additional tasks as needed: shredding, filing, scanning/photocopying, assembling advising materials
-Office coverage during staff meetings and required training for Student Service Center staff

Required Qualifications:
-High school diploma or GED
-Basic clerical skills
-Computer literacy
-Excellent customer service
-Effective communication skills
-Understanding of the registration process

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Banner

Other Information:
This position is scheduled for approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Special Instructions to Applicants:
You must be enrolled in at least 6 credits at the College with a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Contact hours will not be used to meet the 6 credit hour minimum.
OR
You must be enrolled or continuing your education with Ferris State University or Michigan State University on the campus of SMC and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and at least 1 credit hour with SMC.
