The Office of the Controller's has an immediate opening for an Accountant at the Coral Gables campus. The Accountant will be responsible for various areas relating to financial reporting, including timely month-end closes, analyzing various financial statement line items, reconciling accounting activity, and resolving complex discrepancies. In addition, this position will be responsible for both routine and non-routine accounting transactions, and may serve as a project lead for accounting projects upon request. This position requires solid knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles to help ensure the accuracy and completeness of data.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESApplies accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information.Prepares accurate and timely reports and statements to ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.Analyzes and prepares financial and non-financial surveys or requests as assigned.Analyzes and prepares selected monthly, quarterly and year-end financial schedules and support for the audited financial statements and footnotes.Analyzes, classifies, and reviews complex accounting transactions and inter-relationships.Examines a variety of financial statements and documents for completeness, accuracy, and conformity to accounting principles/ requirements.Ensures that systems and procedures are in compliance with company policies, acceptable accounting practices, and applicable regulations.Suggests, recommends, and implements changes to accounts, reports, and systems.Performs monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close activities - including journal entry preparation and review, variance analysis preparation and review, legal entity reporting, and balance sheet account reconciliation and analysisAssists with preparation of financial reports through analyses of operating and/or financial data.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESSolid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.Strong analytical skills, reports, ability to work independently and strong written and oral communication skills.Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel and WordAbility to meet deadlines and manage priorities.Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretionCommitment to excellent customer service and positive teamworkAbility to handle stress and work well under pressureQUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree with major in accounting.
