El Camino College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member to join its Nursing team! El Camino’s two-year Associate Degree Nursing Program, approved by the Board of Registered Nursing, prepares students for entry-level employment as registered nurses in hospital and community settings.  The incumbent will provide classroom instruction in accordance with established course outlines while using comparative cross-cultural, multidisciplinary perspectives. Teaching assignments will include instruction of pre-licensure nursing students in both the classroom and the clinical area in the medical-surgical, obstetric, pediatric and mental health areas of the program.  Faculty may have a teaching assignment in more than one course and may include teaching classes offered during the day and/or evening hours.  Faculty will be responsible for supervising students in clinical learning experiences, supervising students in campus-based nursing practice labs, seminar groups, and nursing theory classes in the first or second year of the program. 


The position requires participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, student activities, office hours, and curriculum/instructional development. Other responsibilities include assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College’s mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services. 



Master's degree in Nursing; OR 

Bachelor’s in nursing AND Master’s in health education or health science; OR 

Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he/she is assigned, which can be met by: a) One (1) year’s continuous full-time or its equivalent providing direct patient care as a Registered Nurse in the designated nursing area; or b) one (1) academic year of Registered Nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency; as set by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND

Valid California Registered Nurse License or eligibility for California Licensure as a registered nurse, AND

Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.  



Recent teaching in a community college or clinical experience in an acute care facility demonstrating expertise in medical–surgical, obstetrics and/or pediatric nursing.

Recent experience in more than one nursing discipline area is highly desirable.

Experience examining and remediating one’s instruction, interactions, and/or practices to more effectively engage and support diverse students.

Demonstrated skill with addressing issues of equity. 

Demonstrated expertise in culturally responsive methodologies, particularly as it relates to students’ lives, interests, and communities.

Contract shall be for full-time, tenure-track teaching assignment for the 2019 – 2020 academic year, beginning August 22, 2019. A teaching demonstration will be required during the interview process. The starting salary ranges from $66,598 - $91,474 depending on education and experience. Excellent fringe benefits are included.
