Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, is seeking a Sr. Surgical Technician.  The Sr. Surgical Technician is responsible for instruments and equipment that is used during the surgical procedure and is accountable for maintaining a sterile field during surgical procedures. The Sr. Surgical Technician must demonstrate competency and proficiency in the use of equipment and instruments for all surgical procedures that are performed in the department.

  • Prepares the surgical suite, including supplies and equipment, for the surgical patient and assures environmental safety for-the patient and personnel.
  • Demonstrates a surgical conscience by practicing aseptic technique.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of all required equipment, instrumentation and supplies utilized during the procedure.
  • Maintains a neat and organized sterile field.
  • Labels medication and solutions on the surgical field.
  • At the conclusion of the day returns instruments to the workroom for decontamination and returns unused supplies and instruments to their areas.
  • Participates in the stocking of sub sterile rooms and picking the supplies for the next day
  • Demonstrates commitment to organizational goals.
  • Attends all mandatory in-services as directed.
  • Consistently maintains complete confidentiality of all medical, financial, employees, computer and other sensitive material which may jeopardize the privacy of patients, employees and others.
  • Demonstrates orientation towards service excellence by conducting daily activities, communications, and interaction in a cooperative, positive and professional manner.
  • Displays courtesy toward customers by introducing self and addressing customers by name.
  • Meets customers' expectations by listening and demonstrating sensitivity and awareness of them.
  • Follows through to ensure that established expectations are satisfied and keeps customers informed of progress.
  • Responsible for cleaning and sterilization of instruments for the surgery center and the medical office building.  Assisting with inventory and ordering of supplies for the surgery center.

The minimum requirements are as follows:  High School Diploma or equivalent is required.  Graduated from an Accredited Surgical Technician Program Certification Preferred

Three (3) years relevant experience required.  BLS certification required.  Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.

Patient safety is a top priority.
