The History Department invites applications for an assistant (tenure track), associate or full professorship in African American history to begin in August 2019. The department welcomes all areas of specialization.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

Candidates will be expected to teach a two-course undergraduate survey in African American history and courses related to their research specialization. The successful candidate also will be expected to contribute to and to help build the University of the South’s program in African and African American Studies and multi-year, ongoing Project on Slavery, Race and Reconciliation.

Education

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment.

Experience

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate an active research agenda.
