Minimum Education/Experience: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in medical education, counseling, higher education, or closely related degree. Experience in learner development, learning and life skills education, and academic and other counseling. Experience in leading and directing an office including managing office staff and administering programs. Minimum of two years experience establishing a track record of leadership in building and evaluating counseling programs within an integrated, complex academic medical center. Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with senior administration to build positive vision, direction, and results through strategic Initiatives that holistically impact counseling and academic development. Possess outstanding command of the elements and dynamics of organizational change, while having led or been Involved In these efforts in the past. Possess in-depth knowledge and experience regarding the culture of healthcare and consider diversity and inclusion in student development and counseling. Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills; strong management and planning skills; and computer literacy

Job Duties: This is a reassigned time opportunity for an existing EHRA employee to serve in a 25% role as Assistant Dean for the Office of Student Development and Academic Counseling in the Brody School of Medicine. Specific duties for this position are to oversee the direction, staff, planning and activities of the Office of Student Development and Counseling. Develop, along with other leaders in the BSOM, a network for counseling and academic support and create a wellness curriculum that focuses on learner health and wellbeing. Participate as part of leadership team of deans of the Office of Academic Affairs and with other key leadership groups in the school to inspire, mentor and educate others about learner wellness, development and models for success. To work very closely with the Offices of Medical Education and Student Affairs around issues of curriculum and learner achievement. Attend promotion and review committees, curriculum committee meetings and other meetings as needed to monitor learner wellbeing and academic preparedness. Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Admissions to conduct academic learning needs assessments/metrics for newly admitted learners to the BSOM. In consultation with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development to match learner needs with faculty resources for teaching and faculty ability. Working with the Director of the Brody RISE program and other stakeholders to create wellbeing and academic learning needs assessments/metrics for pipeline program participants. Deliver Strategic Leadership by creating a vision for the Office of Student Development and Counseling and transmitting this vision to faculty, staff and learners. This will include working with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to set annual goals and objectives for OSDAC that support the mission and objectives of BSOM. Launch the development and implementation of strategic plans, procedures, proposals, and programs to ensure overall coordination and direction of counseling, wellness and academic programs at BSOM. Maximize analysis and regulatory compliance. Monitor and evaluate programmatic effectiveness through quantitative, qualitative and other methods and implements changes required for improvement. Develop effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with accreditation agency requirements regarding student development and counseling. Ensuring students are prepared for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) three-step examination for medical licensure.
