Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), located in Chicago, Illinois, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Founded in 1867, NEIU is a vibrant public research and learning community. Over the past 151 years, the University has trained teachers and school administrators, produced leaders representing the Chicago metropolitan area in city, state, and national politics, and enriched the lives of our students by fostering their academic and professional excellence. NEIU provides a supportive learning environment which has a student-teacher ratio of 16-to-1 and supports mentoring relationships and experiential learning. Educational experiences at the University include hands-on learning through civic engagement, research opportunities, and creative works and performance. NEIU is the most diverse public comprehensive university in the Midwest, and is designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The ethnic, cultural, age, sex/gender, economic and language diversity of the University is one of our most precious resources and a fundamental responsibility of the institution.

The new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will join NEIU during a time of optimism and forward momentum. Dr. Gloria J. Gibson was appointed President by NEIU's Board of Trustees on March 15, 2018 and is embarking on a bold vision of transformation to further the institution's mission of providing an exceptional academic experience and preparing a diverse community of students for leadership and service within the region and beyond as outlined in NEIU’s Strategic Plan. Under the President’s leadership, the University will focus on, among other areas, student access and success. The University seeks a Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs who can provide strong leadership during a transformation that will enhance our retention and graduation rates and help lead a diverse institution by promoting collaboration, consensus-building, and courage.

Reporting to President Gibson, the new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will be a key institutional leader and partner in achieving NEIU's full promise and potential. NEIU is seeking a Provost who will provide outstanding leadership for the academic mission of the University. As the University’s chief academic officer, the Provost will provide administrative leadership for the Colleges and support units within the area of Academic Affairs.

The University seeks an individual with a proven record of transformational leadership. The ideal candidate is an innovative administrator, an accomplished researcher/scholar, a dedicated educator, and an individual who understands and is excited about the challenges and opportunities of a public, urban, comprehensive institution. A commitment to and demonstrated record of advancing diversity in all its forms is essential, as is knowledge and experience in creative problem solving and decision making. The successful candidate will also display strong strategic planning, resource allocation and budgetary skills, substantial administrative experience, and enthusiasm for working within a robust and disciplined labor/management culture. A terminal degree appropriate to the candidate’s academic field and from an accredited institution is required. Appointment as a tenured professor will be determined at the time of hire by the candidate’s prospective department in consultation with the University’s President.

Inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by February 15, 2019. Candidates should provide, as two separate documents, a curriculum vitae and a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the Leadership and Institutional Profile, available at www.wittkieffer.com. These materials should be sent electronically via e-mail to Northeastern Illinois University’s consultants Amy Crutchfield and Jen Pickard, Ph.D., at [email protected].
